(15,195 posts)Ralph Metcalfe in the 100 meter, Mack Robinson (brother of baseball's Jackie) in the 200 meter.
Metcalfe joined Owens on the 4x100 relay race.
All told, the 18 Black members of the U.S. team took home 14 medals from Berlin, eight of them gold, one-fourth of the U.S. medal count.
I like to think they didn't so much crush Hitler's myth as they proved their own abilities.

(5,743 posts)And even though these men were among the top athletes in America, they were not allowed to play in any of the professional sports leagues. We think about how these guys really stuck it to Hitler. But for them, and all other African-Americans, the US wasn't such a great place either.
