A very carefully worded opinion on the car crash

First, I am talking about the celebrity car crash that happened the day after the major tragedy that killed all those people. They did not happen on the same day.

The picture that was taken of her sitting in the car at the site of the first crash was probably just a result of not wearing makeup. It doesn't indicate anything.

The owner of the salon that she had visited just prior to the crash stated that she did not appear drunk.

Her producer stated that the podcast was recorded on Tuesday, not on the day of the crash, which was on Friday.

The video of the "near miss" of a pedestrian was no such thing. There was a pedestrian, but he/she barely looked up, if at all. The car was not angled anywhere near the person as she passed by.

The picture of the alleged bottle of vodka shows a red cap; but Smirnoff vodka, the most likely brand with a red cap has a branding with a red banner on the bottle below the cap. The bottle that is pictured has a white label.

So, I'm not saying that it isn't liquor, I'm just saying that it is doubtful that it is Smirnoff. Interesting enough, most red cap vodkas, of which there are fewer than other colors, mostly also have red banner labels. So, I don't think that this picture is conclusive of anything. It could be a bottle of soy sauce, for all we know. Or hair shampoo.

If they didn't draw the blood within 12 hours, it probably won't be any good for DUI. The story shifted a bit over time, and they are still waiting for results. I found that on average it takes as long as four to six weeks to obtain BAC results. So, they're not going to arrest her for DUI for at least that long.

They could have done a urine test if they got the warrant, but guess what? It isn't illegal to drive with alcohol in your urine. They can extrapolate backward and estimate the amount of alcohol in the blood from the urine, but that's iffy. And after five days, that test is also no good. So, if they didn't get that, it's too late. I'm sure she has a foley in, so they could have done that.

In California, you have to pick from a blood draw, a breath test, or a urine test. If you refuse to take a test, you'll lose your license. The urine test is the least accurate.

The videos of the car racing through the street were alarming, but those that estimated 100 miles an hour just don't know. A third video surfaced which has peculiar sounds on it coming from the car as the car passes. She was driving a Mini Cooper Clubman, it is reported. The difference between a Clubman and Countryman isn't stated, but there are recalls of Mini Coopers for such issues as unintended acceleration. Also..."is recalling certain 2017-2019 MINI Cooper Countryman vehicles. These vehicles may be missing a crash protection plate near the high pressure fuel pump, which may result in a fuel leak in the event of a crash."

In addition to these problems, owners reported excessively hot parts in the pedal areas which caused them to have to remove their feet from the area. My point is, we really don't know what happened to the car, if anything, and we don't know if it was deliberate.

I feel really bad for the woman living there, but it was not her house. It was a rental. I'm not trying to minimize her losses. I know how I would feel. And, she had two dogs to house and care for, so that is an important consideration. That's not easy. The public raised over $100,000 to help her out. At least there's that.

I don't know why Heche backed up and left the scene after causing property damage with the vehicle. No pictures were taken of the garage, and this is likely a misdemeanor hit and run--if it was a hit and run at all. You have up to ten days to report accidents. The three elements of a hit and run are: not stopping, providing identification, or offering help. She obviously did stop, and no person was injured or otherwise involved in the accident. That leaves the requirement to provide identification--but, to whom? Did the people there, who were not part of the accident, have the right to impede her or threaten her over this?

The learning experience I received was to find out that it is not illegal to drive with alcohol in your urine. They have to basically guess how much alcohol is in your blood. Now, I do not drink and drive; I barely have a glass of wine in a year. So, don't misunderstand. I'm not advocating that a raging drunk be allowed to continue on their merry. (And, I have war stories that are not pretty.) But, this woman was basically told to crawl off in a corner and die, because she has money and because she's a public figure (and no, for those that can't abstractly process this idea, I don't mean that anyone said for her to die, although there were implications.)

That's all I want to say. I hope she doesn't die. Hope we win in November. Thank you.

I was shocked that some prankster had gotten access to the typesetting and stuck in a sick joke like that! I still have my huge Princess Diana bride doll somewhere.

And Freddie Mercury... Still mourning to this day.

It kind of does seem that something may have been wrong with the vehicle. If she had been that drunk, wouldn’t she have smashed into one of the cars that were lining the street, before she hit the house?

what was she on? But then I remembered that she had mental health problems so it occurred to me that she could be bipolar and in a manic episode. I have friends who are bipolar and in the past some were not well controlled. Medication only goes so far. Then it occurred to me that maybe there was some kind of personal emergency and who knows? It was all very strange. On thinking about why she might have driven away after the first crash, perhaps she hit her head and that caused her to not think clearly. Again, who knows?

Burns are excruciatingly painful. When I was in training I did one day in a burn unit. One day. That was enough to tell me I never, ever wanted to work in a burn unit. Nurses who do will never go to hell because they have served their time. She has third and apparently fourth degree burns, which don't hurt now because the nerves have been burnt, but will be excruciatingly painful as the nerves regenerate. That is if she lives. And she will never look the same. That is punishment enough.

As for the woman in the house, she is indeed lucky to be alive. She was a long-term renter, so she is not covered by insurance unless she had renter's insurance, which covers some things but very little. She lost her pets and her business which she ran from her home. There is a GoFundMe for her, which I hope goes big.

And I hope we win in November.

"The picture that was taken of her sitting in the car at the site of the first crash was probably just a result of not wearing makeup. It doesn't indicate anything. "

I've not seen anything that comments on how she "looks" sitting in her car. Good lord, I rarely wear make-up, and I don't think that makes anyone think I'm drunk. What on earth are you on about here?

And who told this woman "to crawl off in a corner and die"? I saw no one say that. I saw people express sympathy for the woman who lost everything she owned in the house in which she lived, but I saw no one hoping for Heche's death.

Interesting, I don't think I've ever noticed you quite so exercised about any of the people referenced in so many "grave dancing" threads that often appear here. Curious.

People were saying or implying that she looks wasted. She simply wasn't wearing any makeup. You don't wear makeup yourself? Are you sure people don't think you're drunk? I don't think women are obliged to wear makeup, and I don't think that it implies that if you don't, you're drunk. I also told you that the comment about crawling off to die wasn't literal.

I think I don't really understand what you mean by "quite so exercised." What do you mean by "grave dancing?"

According to eyewitnesses, the actress first crashed into the garage of a nearby apartment complex but backed up and sped off before residents could help her.

Officials with the LAPD West Traffic Division also confirmed she hit another vehicle before slamming into the house that went up in flames and left her severely burned.

Here's the salon owner's account of her behavior prior to her crashes:

Carefully chosen or not. A celebrity was the driver in a car accident that caused serious damage. She was badly burned and may not survive. Some people care about that very much, while others have other things that concern them more.

Bottom line is that DU is a political discussion forum, not a forum designed to pick at details regarding celebrities. I hope she recovers fully and that the damage is taken care of without destroying the life of the other person. But, I'm sure we'll learn about those things in due time. Meanwhile, there are many things going on that are pertinent to the subjects normally discussed here.

I don't think your post today did much to clarify your post from yesterday, to tell you the truth.

Aug 2022

It often seems that those who achieve celebrity do strange things, self-destructive things, or things designed to keep themselves in the public eye. It also often seems that celebrities have problems with depression and other disorders. Comes with the territory, apparently.

I'm afraid that I have very little interest in celebrities of any kind. They seem to live in a world which I never enter, so I pay little attention to them.

I only know of Ann Heche because of her brief relationship with Ellen DeGeneres, who I only know of because her TV show is on just before the CBS local news where I live. I know relatively nothing about either of them, though, and don't have any real curiosity about them. So, the news of the car wreck thing made only a brief impression on me.

Maybe for some, though, such news is disturbing. I can't say, really. I do know people who are more or less fixated on some celebrity or another. Why, I can't say.

At any rate, here you are on my thread. You didn't have to read it or make multiple comments. And, you know, you're not me, but I do get your drift.

Cars are of interest to me, so it didn't hurt me to research Mini Coopers. They have a long history of very scary mechanical problems, and while they look cute, they are probably not what I'd buy at this point. I am interested in an electric vehicle, but not sure I can afford one.

Also, I learned what to do if you hit a fixed object; you are still liable for hit and run even if you only hit a building, under the right conditions. I confess, I didn't know that. Also, as I said, I am delighted to learn that you can have all the alcohol you want--in your urine. I don't plan to ever drink and drive, but it's good to know. I am one of those who believes that teaching people what to do for emergencies is a good thing. I am terrified of cops, and they don't always do the right thing themselves.

I apologize for disturbing you.

The FBI "raid" was a lot of fun to read. Most of the comments were jokes, which have been much appreciated by me. Not a great deal of political analysis, but some. This was the last most important political discussion on DU. And, while we are stunned and happy about this turn of events, most comments were memes and jokes. It has been interesting to see the behavior and attitudes, and learn the taboos and forbidden subjects. Had I not been jumped on, perhaps I wouldn't be so annoyed and "obsessed."

I have learned a lot from DU. I wasn't trying to clarify anything. I see a parallel with our discussions about other people, and I observe that not a lot of objectivity is really exercised. I was only a few pixels on the page. Nothing for anyone to get so upset about.

I am absolutely disgusted by what she did. Appalled. Disgusted to the nth degree. I do not want her to die. I am very sorry she is burned. But I am appalled. And I am further appalled by anyone like you who is seeking to poo poo her atrocious criminal reckless behavior simply because she is a beautiful white woman who has achieved fame.

I feel really bad for the woman living there, but it was not her house. It was a rental.

Why the AF would this matter? The woman living there NEARLY DIED because of her reckless criminal behavior where she was driving 100 mph in a residential neighborhood. She hit two houses. That poor woman nearly burned up in a fire if her neighbor hadn't gotten her out. And your response is "I feel bad... but it was not her house. It was a rental." You must have a real obsession with this actress, IMHO. I hope she sues the actress and takes her for millions.

I don't know why Heche backed up and left the scene after causing property damage with the vehicle.

Hmm... She was drunk or high and trying to flee the scene?
