This is a message from the C of Commerce of a small Tx town which

is near our family ranch. I will not be there on Monday and so will not know if anyone actually showed up for this event but the fact that it is planned is amazing to me. Here is the announcement: "Monday Jan. 16, 2012, members of the community will march from Citi Bank to Helping Hands to honor Dr. King’s Day. Remarks and singing will be part of the activities for the day. Refreshments will be served." I think there are about 4 African Americans in this town (most of the minorities are Hispanics), so I feel sure they did not have a forceful say in making this event happen. This is mind boggling to me and makes me think some of my ideas of the prejudice of those in this community may need to readjusted. Wish I did not need to be elsewhere so I could march.

I always thought C of C's were notoriously conservative. And so for the chamber in your town to be behind honoring Dr. Martin Luther King just blows me away...

Congratulations!

be to see if this actually takes place. The large cities of Texas all have these events, but in this town, I am floored.

a meet up would be very welcome.
We did have some amazing events today in honor of MLK. His message of humanity & hope remains within the generation who witnessed that era & lives strong in the youth who follow his message today.
An awesome & honorable day indeed.
