he had a right to face his accusers and therefore wanted them to be at a trial where they could be cross-examined for why they issued the subponea.

I'm betting he gets a fine and 30 days per, so he ends up with 2 months in county lockup.
Not fun, but not existential if you don't otherwise have a job to go to...
