Smoking weed is now more popular than smoking tobacco in the US

Marijuana stocks don’t seem to be making the big headlines they used to. But that doesn’t mean the green wave has stopped.

According to a recent Gallup poll, 16% of Americans said they smoked marijuana in the past week, while just 11% said they smoked a tobacco cigarette.

It marks the first time that smoking pot is more popular than smoking cigarettes in America. It is also the highest percentage of reported past-week marijuana use since Gallup began tracking the data since 2013.

Experimentation with the substance has also grown in America — by a lot.

never even heard of anyone dying from marijuana. Tobacco is one of the major cause of illness in the world.

The real shame is that WEED is still considered a schedule 1 drug - talk about stupid.....

That suppress the growth of tumors. So, that maybe why they aren't finding lung cancer in cannabis smokers.

But they research is all over the place.

That's average for a cigarette smoker. How about 40 like a 2-pack-a-day smoker?

I've never known any potheads THAT habitual about it. The average will be far less than those numbers.

As cigarette smokers.

Also many cigarette smokers smoke cannabis too. So, really all they have are observational studies which aren't as reliable.

However it is very possible to wake and bake, go to work, have a hit at lunch and chain smoke at night and still have a successful career in high stress management projects. Maintain a decades career with success.

cast a negative light on alcohol, but I do have some friends that are still against the occasional lighting up of a joint when we have a party (they go outside where they won't have the fumes bothering the other guests which is great). But these same 'friends' aren't above drinking or bringing their own homemade hotch. Go figure.

premature deaths for centuries. I've never known anyone on weed to start a fight, drive recklessly (maybe drive too slow or be really paranoid 😂 after smoking a joint.

The history of marijuana prohibition is well documented. It pretty much started as a racist effort and then evolved, especially during the 60's, as an excuse to discriminate against those evil hippies that were protesting the war and the stupid US foreign policy.

The real irony was the Nancy Reagan "War on Drugs" that mostly went after crack cocaine but also included marijuana and all the while Ronnie Raygun was doing his Iran/Contra drug deals in order to get $$$ under the table. These folks are and have always been hypocrites.

the nature of someone's work who is at your parties/other parties, and their jobs may require a 'clean' bill of health, no history of drug use (although this is rapidly changing, there are some places that still do have this restriction), and this is okay, I don't knock it.

I just don't (and others do too) want someone to get accidently dosed w/ a smoked joint or the like. It doesn't hurt to be safe.

In short, be considerate of others, you never know who's there enjoying your party (I've had judges and / or cops there, as 'regular' people visiting at the party).
