We definitely know it wasn't for business acumen. At the time, DH & I wondered what he could conceivably know that could justify that kinda spare change from SA.

Roy Cohn Condemned the Rosenbergs as Soviet Spies. Their Granddaughter Just Made a Film About Him.
Ivy Meeropol, the director of Bully. Coward. Victim., discusses the life of the Trump mentor who remains one of America's most infamous villains.

EXCERPT
Cohn was just 23 when his role as a prosecutor in the Rosenberg trial made him a nationally-known figure. Electrical engineer Julius and his secretary wife Ethel were native New Yorkers who met in the Young Communist league in the 1930s, and were arrested in 1950. In a trial riddled with prosecutorial misconduct, the Rosenbergs were convicted of passing to Russia secrets of the atomic bomb. One of their allies later confessed that Julius did commit espionagebut historians generally agree that the information he relayed was not at all crucial to Soviet bomb-building efforts. Alan Dershowitz, a true Trump-era Forrest Gump, says in the film that Cohn told him the trial amounted to fram[ing] guilty people.
But Ethel was almost certainly innocent. Her brother and spy ring co-conspirator David Greenglass testified during the trial that his sister was involved in the plot, but later recanted his account, saying that, with Cohns encouragement, he lied to spare his own wife and family. Unlike everyone else involved in the spying operation, Ethel was never given a codename. Still, Cohn boasted in his autobiography that when trial judge Irving Kaufman, torn over whether or not to sentence Ethel to death, called him for advice, he urged the judge to condemn her. The way I see it, he told Kaufman, she is worse than Julius.
The Rosenbergs extended family members were too afraid of falling under the taint of communism to take in their orphaned sons. Robert and Michael were eventually adopted by Abel Meeropol, writer of the anti-lynching protest song Strange Fruit, and his wife Anne, after the children were introduced to the couple at a party at W.E.B. Du Bois home. Both grew up to be university professors.

Hmm, never thought of either Israel or Iranian secrets...I thought of SA as a pass-through to giving the documents to somebody, Putin maybe? SA is as mobbed up (in behavior, at least) as the TFG and his coterie of minions, thugs, killers and thieves.

(3,818 posts)For those who are unaware of the $2 billion from SA - I'm the one who has thrown in the documents from MaL being behind the payoffs of Leader of Cult45 debt. Jared was flying around the world up until PJB inauguration. I do believe what DOJ found in the empty classified folders (or whatever - don't want to nitpick or parse) - Jared (IMNSHO) was selling these documents to the highest bidder.

I also think - again, IMNSHO, because PJB is not giving out economic and other info to the billionaires/trillionaires like Cult45 Leader is why they hate PJB and Democrats in general.
One of the greatest fears was that Cult45 gets economic news 12 hours before the general public, as does any current president.
Cult45's leader was simply doing business as usual - everything is for sale to the highest bidder...
(To reiterate, some is my personal opinion and some is in the public domain as far as new articles from 2015/2016 onward...)

(53,991 posts)Speculation is fun, but it is just that: speculation.
I love to see how many alleged, self-proclaimed liberals, already know "the truth" and are ready to bring on the executions.

(1,324 posts)Why are you so adamant in defending Jared in every thread? Why do you think that incompetent boob received TWO BILLION DOLLARS from Saudi Arabia? Bring on the executions - a bit hyperbolic, to put it mildly; what are you implying?
Behind the Aegis
(53,991 posts)I don't know why that POS got $2 Billion from SA. And guess what, YOU and NO ONE else here knows either! So, if you can "speculate", so can I. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean my speculation is any less relevant.
DET
(1,324 posts)No, I cant definitively say that Jared sold out our country and probably others for his own personal enrichment, but its the only thing that makes sense. Have you forgotten his handling (stealing) of Covid supplies during the worst of the pandemic? Unconscionable. And his complaint that White House lawyers were whining about the law while he was attending to the important business of granting unwarranted Presidential pardons for illegal activities? Plus a million other things. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, its a duck.
Behind the Aegis
(53,991 posts)Have you forgotten that facts matter? If you and others can speculate, so can I. It doesn't mean he isn't a POS; he is. What I don't like is how some are IGNORING the MAIN culprit and acting as if Kushner is the "main man".
"If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, its a duck." YUP!
DET
(1,324 posts)Of course, facts matter. And if Trump hadnt perverted the justice system to the extent that he has (see Judge Cannon), perhaps we could find out what the facts are. NOBODY is ignoring Trump; hes the source of all things evil in his God awful reign. Jared is just one of the larger barnacles that has attached itself to the host in a perverse symbiotic grift (apologies to biologists). I hope they all go down, sooner than later.
Behind the Aegis
(53,991 posts)I am on edge because of shit I am seeing from the far right, and I really, really do not like to see "doublespeak" from MY side! The former Squatter-in-Chief has done some serious damage to this country. I don't believe anybody is ignoring the former POS, but I do see some very disturbing remarks, parallels, and allegations made to appear as fact, appearing here and other liberal sites, not to mention conservative sites, and especially far-right sites. I don't like it! Is Kushner scum? Yes. Did he likely do something illegal? More than likely the answer will be "yes". The irony in some of the comments is the speculation that Kushner sold out Israel, not necessarily the US, and yet, the hate is still off the charts. That really is some fucking monumental irony.
I do believe it will all come out; hopefully, two weeks before the elections for all those with short memories on the right.

(13,501 posts)It's NOT that I don't think Jared is a twerp capable of selling nuclear secrets. I think he's quite capable of that.
But we don't know that for sure, and part of the problem on the right is the conspiracy theories and lack of evidence. They make shit up, spread it online, scare people, and run with it.
I am not comfortable with doing that. I think a more rational pushback against right wing extremism is the only way to defeat it completely without fracturing our society.
Is it possible that the 2B was a payment for info in some of those Top Secret docs? Sure. But investigators need to investigate that. They need to prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt. Because if there is that shadow, the right wing will use it to sow discord.

(3,818 posts)to his consigliere to handle. The problem is, who is the real consigliere? He's tried and failed to find his "Roy Cohn" (sp?) (who he fucked over largely on his death bed). I "speculate" that that person is hidden, we don't know who exactly it is. Putin, maybe? Or is TFG Putin's consigliere?
When TFG was running back in 2015, it was "speculated" that TFG was $1.5 billion in debt, but because it was all hidden in private hedge funds, or whatever you want to call them, that we may never know.
I "speculate" that because his daddy was sent to prison, Jared is one of TFG's capo's and wanted revenge against DOJ/Fed gov't, so flew the world, showed them a taste of some documents for sale, and they were put up to the highest bidder.

(53,991 posts)If for the POS that squatted in the WH, well, there are certainly some areas that would justify years in jail, but I don't know if even he should be executed. Now, once all the facts are in, then we can reevaluate. I just find it telling how a few are focusing more on Kushner and love bringing up the Rosenbergs, than are focusing on the overall administration. People are only speculating, and some of that speculation is frankly fucking offensive. Of course, I am being all uppity and expressing my opinion and a few don't like that I am not lock and step with their guesses.
Nevilledog
(51,201 posts)I think what you're seeing is an expression of the momentary relief of being right about everything these monsters have done. It's acknowledgment that we were right about what monsters these people are, and the damage they've done to this country. We've been traumatised for years because of this fucking family and I don't find it odd that part of this moment is a pretty strong desire to see them suffer.
Behind the Aegis
(53,991 posts)However, I think speculation should be just that, speculation, and disagreeing with the punishment for a speculation shouldn't be punished. I dislike some of the comments I have seen here (and a few other places), which are ignoring the FACT we don't have all the facts...YET.

(21,910 posts)From the Times report:
A New York Times report last month revealing the Saudi investments in the Kushner and Mnuchin funds raised alarms from ethics experts and Democratic lawmakers about the appearance of potential payoffs for official acts during the Trump administration. But an examination of the two mens travels toward the end of the Trump presidency raises other questions about whether they sought to exploit official relationships with foreign leaders for private business interests.
The problem, of course, is that this isnt an either/or dynamic. Theres ample reason to be concerned about services rendered and the degree to which Mnuchin and Kushner abused their official positions.
When the Saudis wrote sizable checks to Kushner and Mnuchin, they not only might have been rewarding the Americans for their pro-Saudi work, they might also have been thinking ahead about possible opportunities to come in the event of a second Trump term.
