Vladimir PutinHalfway through his invasion of Ukraine's sixth bloody month, Russian President Vladimir Putin's grip on power in Moscow is imploding as scores of Kremlin officials are calling upon the 69-year-old autocrat to quit.
Putin had anticipated his February 24th "special military operation" to be a cakewalk through the Russian-controlled East into the Ukrainian capitol of Kyiv. But with the aid of a Western coalition led by the United States, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's unshatterable resistance campaign has decimated Putin's combat forces and depleted his military's offensive capabilities.
Casualties have climbed into the tens of thousands. Numerous allegations of genocide committed against Ukrainian civilians have flooded international watchdog organizations. The global economy has suffered major setbacks. Europe quivers on the brink of potentially multiple atomic disasters. And Moscow's finest are either bogged down or on the run.
On Saturday, The Daily Beast reported that "just one day after several municipal deputies in Putins hometown of St. Petersburg called on the State Duma to try the Russian leader for treason, their colleagues in Moscow joined in and demanded he steps down because his views are 'hopelessly outdated.'"

But then, because trump was already a known national security risk, the intel provided him was false?

I'm sure they had it all planned out before they said a word to him. Considering that he's evidently already at death's door, he may not care if they bump him off. He might see that as preferable to admitting he made a huge, costly mistake. In which case, I hope they don't wait too long.

My guess is Russia has more than a few who could take the same trip and leave Russia better off.

(81,238 posts)For you, TOO, Vladdy-boy.
I sure hope it does. But hes been a survivor and an extremely shrewd and devious calculator and maneuverer. Hes had years to perfect this far more under-the-radar offensive, AND establishment of IMAGE.
Its the IMAGE-thing. It helps underscore the narrative that a V.I.P. would want to project, visually. So you have a picture illustrating what is being messaged verbally.
Maybe its kinda along the lines of what all those positive-thinking advisors talk about - like picturing or visualizing what you want to make it happen or otherwise manifest it in real life. Just made me think about the noises were starting to hear in reports now coming from over there that Putins on the way out. Certainly could be wishful thinking put out in public. But if you start hearing that from more and more sources, from gossip to established publications and news reports, after awhile it starts to take on an air of possibility. Then, probability. And ultimately, assumed near-certainty. Its an expansion of perception onto a larger scale.
Meh - just bloviating here but thats how it strikes me right now. Im fascinated by perception management.

(53,061 posts)Why would Kadyrov speak out against Putin's leadership in Ukraine? Chechnya sent troops to fight and Putin wants hime to send more to reinforce Russian troops in the South.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/sep/11/putin-loyalist-kadyrov-criticises-russian-armys-performance-over-ukraine-retreat
Ramzan Kadyrov, the Kremlin-appointed leader of Chechnya, has criticised the Russian armys leadership after it appeared to be caught off guard by Ukraines fightback against the Russian invasion in the north-east.
In a sign that the Kremlin may face serious fallout over the loss of territory that the Russian occupation administrations had repeatedly stated they planned to keep for ever, Kadyrov also suggested that Vladimir Putin might not be aware of the real state of affairs.
They have made mistakes and I think they will draw the necessary conclusions, Kadyrov said in an audio message posted to his Telegram channel on Sunday.
If today or tomorrow no changes in strategy are made, I will be forced to speak with the leadership of the defence ministry and the leadership of the country to explain the real situation on the ground to them. Its a very interesting situation. Its astounding, I would say, said Kadyrov, a former rebel turned Kremlin ally who rules Chechnya a Russian republic in the Caucasus with an iron fist and has a paramilitary force at his command.
