(53,971 posts)difficult of all IMO, and he got us out despite the Afghan government's cowardly and hasty retreat to save themselves, trump's agreed deadline with the Taliban to leave by a certain date, which was why the bottleneck at the airport happened, and the Taliban went back on their agreement and attacked at the last minute.
We did get out though and Joe took a lot of hits, even though it was much less of a disaster than our evacuation from Vietnam, or Frances' from Dien Bien Phu, or the USSR's from Afghanistan.
He got it done.

(7,263 posts)At the start, I had my hesitations about Joe since I am on the progressive left side of the scale.
But then I remember the Labor Day address he gave at the Pittsburgh Labor Day parade in 2016. It was at least 50% 'Bernie' talking points. Very progressive.
I'd known of Joe for years; being a resident of Pennsylvania, one could not help but hear about the things he did. Heard him speechify at several Labor Day and other events over the years. Always thought he was a decent person.
I GOTV'ed and gave $$ to Joe in 2020 after he won the nomination. A lot. And I am so glad I did.
President Biden will go down as one of the top half dozen Presidents in US history.
Yes, he will.
You heard that from a leftist progressive Democrat. Take it to the bank.

(54,498 posts)Joe Biden hasn't been a good president, but an awful one. He sticks up for the rights of people the extremist right wants to eliminate from the face of the earth, and isn't shy about saying so. I was warned about a campaign song I wrote for him in 2020 where the chorus went, "You've got to know when you're older, you know to be bolder." Some people told me they were nervous about raising either point. Well, Joe Biden himself seems to have no reticence about raising either point, and he's charging full speed ahead because he has nothing to lose, and the country has everything to gain. It's called "hitting his stride," and it's hard to stop a man who has nothing to lose by hitting his stride and saying what he really thinks--not tossing out tired, empty slogans, but verbalizing what he thinks and is trying to accomplish, while acknowledging what is being tossed against him, and calling it out by name. "You gonna try and stop me from being re-elected? Go ahead, I can handle it. But it's too late to stop me from having accomplished what I already have."

(28,818 posts)but he may be the best president of my lifetime. i'm 67 years old.
it grieves me now that i never voted for him until the 2020 election, when clearly he was the man for the job.

(33,546 posts)'Way back in the primaries, I wasn't convinced that Joe was the one that voters would come out for. You told me to just wait and see what happened in SC. You didn't give up or run down my then-choice, you just kept pointing out that people knew Joe and Joe knew what was needed and how to get there. You were right and I switched support as James Clyburn delivered a mountain of votes for Joe Biden. Been "ridin' with Biden" ever since and I thank you for opening the door for a hard head.

(25,771 posts)What the hell was that all about? What was the point? The Biden administration was destined for some stupid reason to be the same as a Republican administration? Why? Why are Democrats regularly accused of "ignoring" the working class? Anyone who does that should be ashamed of themselves. Thinking of one person in particular.
