The name of the bill is "Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act." Previous bills he has intro'd with similar names have banned abortion @ 20 wks of pregnancy. Text of this version is not yet available but there are reports it moves the line to 15 wks

(7,627 posts)That should make our messaging even easier when we point out they could ban abortion on a federal level if allowed back in power.

Seems like an appropriate time to remind reporters that late-term abortion is a completely made up phrase that has no basis in medicine (which, hi, abortion is just health care). A pregnancy is full term from 39-40 weeks, and late term at 41 weeks.
Calling a 15 or 20 week abortion late term is another way for anti-abortion people to scare the uninformed and shame pregnant people for the decisions we make about our own bodies so that they can get away with legislating those decisions for us. Its about control over us.
P.S. We NEED 15- & 20-week abortion to be legal & available because these asshats have made it even harder to get access to care when & where we need it. They created the environment where more and more people need later abortions, and now they want to ban it? Absolute bullshit.

It's all a show. While we govern, they pose for the camera. Sickening.

(15,286 posts)Rs are trying to get their base excited, but that horse left the barn with Dobbs.
The anti-abortion nuts got what they wanted with Dobbs, the ability to ban all abortions completely with no exceptions. These are single issue voters, a bill continuing to allow abortions isn't going to motivate them to vote.

This bill is only targeting states that don't have abortion restrictions. This is their play. In Republican controlled states they will let women die. Now they are targeting the states they don't control. It was never states rights. It was always Christian extremism run amok.

Text of the revised bill from Sen. Lindsey Graham R-SC on abortion. Instead of the original 20 weeks - it is now a ban on most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

And Graham's bill would only override state/local laws which allow abortion past 15 weeks. Full text of his bill at https://lgraham.senate.gov/public/_cache/files/3065785d-86b8-4d36-986a-72aa1c8f100c/protecting-pain-capable-unborn-children-from-late-term-abortions-act-.pdf
