Graham is obviously pushing this bill, which has zero chance of getting to the Senate floor, to energize the christo-fascist base for the midterms.
But it also could have the affect of bringing out the pro-choice majority who are sick to death of the GOP's Handmaiden strategy.
We shall see who comes out in November.

(33,575 posts)they just think the media will spin it that way. They are probably right.

(7,820 posts)I actually think that will fail miserably.
but what will Chuck Todd say?

(20,680 posts)by offering some kind of "middle ground," Or, they think it will make the GQP look more reasonable.
I'd love to know if McTurtle is rebuking him because it's too tough or too soft.

(3,826 posts)...betting yes, that this will help.
How foolish, as it's only going to further energize non fascists.

(20,680 posts)And by default, that religion in the US right now is christian. Now, I agree with you that it has nothing to do with jesus. And I also believe it's actually about putting women into a 2nd-class-citizen status. So, possibly you and I agree that this is just a means-to-an-end campaign used by churches to influence politics. Many believers think the gop aspires to affirm their beliefs, although I can't imagine how they manage that, given the gop wants nothing to do with the support of children and families once born.
So, please, do not think this is some kind of challenge. I don't do the back-and-forth on here. And I won't. You are welcome to state your feelings any way you wish.

(7,809 posts)There is nowhere in the bible where abortion is not to be done. In fact, Numbers 5:11 has a recipe to induce one.
Today's christo-fascists aren't cherry picking their holy book for what to believe. They are making it up to rile their confused base.
So much for their religious faith.

(33,575 posts)they are also the American Taliban. This doesn't mean all or most Christians are so. But there is a large element of American Christianity that wants religious rule. So I will continue to use the term.

(7,316 posts)So abortion is okay for 15 weeks, then it isn't. How does that placate the anti-choice crowd?

(3,703 posts)An excellent opportunity for the Democratic Party to highlight Republican hypocrisy and thus the danger to America from those whose words can not be trusted.
Whatever the conservative claim, it can't be trusted!
haele
(12,651 posts)Because they can then say "Democrats opposed this bill because they oppose anyone trying to stop the Late Term Abortions of healthy babies!!!!"
15 weeks is not even near third trimester or even the point of viability.
And the GOP has the nerve to bring up European laws, without providing the European social structure and sex education that is a huge part of reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies to begin with.

(50,269 posts)control every uterus in the country is not a winning strategy. It might reinforce the votes of the 5 old, white men who want a complete ban on abortions, but that's about it.

(545 posts)Fascists will impose their rule on the populace politically.
It's not just the Dobbs ruling. The Maine voucher case means that your tax dollars MUST be used to support vouchers to religious schools, even if those religions are not ones you would support. Or, in the case of atheists, none of the religions you would support. Freedom of religion should also include freedom from religion.
To quote Ben Franklin: "When a religion is good, I conceive it will support itself; and when it does not support itself, and God does not take care to support it so that its professors are obliged to call for help of the civil power, 'tis a sign, I apprehend, of its being a bad one."
Where is the TEA party on bearing this taxation? Crickets!!!!!
Any religious school will now be supported financially, even say an Islamic one. However, cui bono! Who will benefit the most? The dominant religions!
In the Kennedy case of the coach wanting to pray on the 50 yard line SCOTUS broke with years of rulings backing up the separation of church and state. Once again, the dominant religions will prevail here. Take a prayer rug to the 50 yard line in most schools in the South and you're likely to be shot. SCOTUS knows this. Hells bells, SCOTUS is COUNTING on it.
As for Christians and when life begins, they ignore:
Genesis 2 The LORD (YAHWAH) God (ELOHEEM) formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
According to the bible, the soul of Adam began at first breath.
