Sen. Lindsey Graham's latest misadventure blows up in his face

Sen. Lindsey Graham's abortion ban proposal roils Republicans, energizes Democrats

WASHINGTON — With abortion access already expected to be a major issue in November’s midterm elections, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham supercharged the debate over reproductive rights by introducing a bill that would ban most abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy.

“I have chosen to craft legislation that I think is eminently reasonable in the eyes of the world,” the South Carolina senator said. “If we take back the House and the Senate, I can assure you we’ll have a vote,” he vowed, speaking at a Capitol Hill press conference where he was flanked by some of the nation’s most prominent anti-abortion activists, including Marjorie Dannenfelser of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. Many of those activists would like an outright ban on all abortions.

“This bill, frankly, doesn’t go far enough for many people,” said Penny Young Nance, president of Concerned Women (Karens) for America. “But it is a consensus piece of legislation.”

Democrats instantly seized on Graham’s proposal, while many Republicans just as quickly distanced themselves from the bill. “I don’t think there’s much of an appetite to go that direction,” Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., told Politico.

"Legislation" like this is political grandstanding to fire up the base. But as far as the radical wing of the GOP are concerned, it seems to me, they don't need firing up, and this sort of thing is bound to scare more moderate GOPpers (insofar as any of these still exist), not rally them.

Man's desperate and making foolish mistakes, IMO.

Was a really good idea. Now he wants a 15 week national limit on abortion. He is also saying that there will be allowances for rape, insest and the life of the mother. And he expects us to believe him.

He has been one of my senators for as long as I have lived in SC, and I have learned that nothing he says can be trusted.

Justice matters.

he wants and few will pay any attention to him anymore, except to enjoy a good laugh at his expense. He is a living, breathing clown show. Besides for his open hypocrisy and lies on SCOTUS appointments, his nose up Trump’s ass since 2016, and flip flopping on issues like this one where, once again, he is on record of flipping from “state’s rights” to fed intervention, he’s turned himself into a laughing stock of a man.

the November elections! They theorize that with enough time and excuses they can get their constituents to swallow whatever reactionary hog-wash they happen to be pushing at the time. We all know its not this proposed bill thats the reich's problem, its the timing of it.

A slogan like, You(or/Jews,) will not replace us! That takes lots & lots of births so = No Contraception! No Abortions! and No Help Either! They don't want to know about your kid[s] until they're Military age!

He will never unintentionally impregnate a woman, and he has no children who may find themselves in a sad situation in which they might need an abortion.

In other words, Lindsey just needs to SHUT THE FUCK UP.

That is so far over the top, he's looking at the earth from the dark side of the moon.

He knows it is unreasonable, and he knows most of the world considers the American extremist right's views on abortion rights to be radical, cruel, oppressive and wrong.

He knows for a fact that everything he has just said is a lie. He knows Biden will veto anything of this nature if it ever embarrasses the country enough by making its way to his desk. ALL Republicans know it.

If the "SUPREME COURT" message wasn't clear enough (and the outcome proved that it obviously wasn't) in 2016, maybe a "VETO POWER" message WILL be clear enough in 2024. If we blow this--and I think it is so far ours to blow--the only thing of which we will get our national "fayah shayah" will be coat hanger abortions.
