Today's Capt. Obvious appearance (AZ, Bowers, elections)

Arizona’s Bowers calls failed GOP election proposal ‘fascism’

Outgoing Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers (R) has called a failed Republican proposal that would have allowed the legislature to overturn election results in his state akin to “fascism.”

“The legislature, after the election, could dismiss the election,” Bowers said of the proposal, which he effectively killed, according to excerpts of a CNN special report set to air Sunday night. “And I said, welcome to fascism.”

The proposal would have overhauled the state’s election system, eliminating most early and absentee voting and restricting where ballots could be cast.

It would have also made the legislature review the election process afterward, allowing the body to “accept or reject the election results.”

Could it possibly be that people don't understand what they're giving up when they give up their vote?

Most don't give a flying rat's ass until electuon day when they go onto the polling place.

Hell, a large percentage don't even know who or what is on their ballot until it is handed to them.

Us, Herr, dissecting and discussing politics... we are the outliers.

They don't keep up, they don’t care, and they won't until it's taken away. I mean, even with months of k owledge that the SCOTUS was going to eliminate Roe, how many people were shocked when it happened? Far more than should have been.

We watched the first episode and it scared the shit out of me. Americans have always flirted with fascism. And what horrific anti semites we were. It seems like the only decent years we have had were since the civil rights era til now. We have been fed such a pack of lies about what America has really been like. Shame on us. We need some truth and reconciliation in this country.

that the Nazis were inspired and emboldened by America's embrace of genocide and slavery.

I also appreciated learning about Brooklyn Congress member Emanuel Celler. Here's a profile of him:

at least they aren't thinking they would. Only the 'others' would lose their votes.

The fasists really don't understand that after they come for the socialists, the Democrats, the women, the minorities, the Muslims, the Jews, that the magats will be next. Maybe last, but definitely next.

10. what percentage of people even bother to vote?

A total of 49.4 percent of eligible voters voted in 2018, compared to a turnout of just 36.0 percent of eligible voters in 2014. The 2018 elections had highest turnout of any mid-term election held since the 1914 elections. And some don't even bother to register to vote. And many of the most ardent voters only listen to fake news.
