TALLAHASSEE A federal judge hearing the case of Hillsborough Countys ousted state attorney appears to favor a trial over immediately reinstating Andrew Warren to decide the issue once and for all.
Warren was requesting a preliminary injunction to put him back to the office Gov. Ron removed him from last month.
The twice-elected state attorney was escorted from his downtown Tampa offices Aug. 4 by an armed sheriffs deputy. The governor accused him of refusing to enforce laws involving abortion and transgender health care, and of not prosecuting certain low-level, non-violent crimes.
Warren, a progressive Democrat, contended that his removal was a political stunt by the conservative governor with whom he had previously clashed. He said DeSantis violated his free speech rights and overstepped his authority.

(2,170 posts)Well, if we can just remove politicians from office without due process, what is to stop them from just doing anything they want? I mean 45 said he could shoot someone on 5th Ave. Also, just overturn elections. Sad times, indeed.

(2,170 posts)As it was when I was young, all the "blue" hairs moved down to Floriduh. They turned it into an old age home, where the governor has dictatorial powers. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

(36,053 posts)come kind of judicial form of potential voter nullification, a very bad precedent for this governor and any judge to set. It's some consolation that the judge is a Clinton appointee, but still.
