So the former President of Honduras, that wonderful US ally has finally been indicted

https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/juan-orlando-hern%C3%A1ndez-former-president-honduras-indicted-drug-trafficking

Juan Orlando Hernández, Former President of Honduras, Indicted on Drug-Trafficking and Firearms Charges, Extradited to the United States from Honduras.
The links between autocrats in our hemisphere and the US raise serious questions about belief in democracy. Show me your friends and I’ll tell you who you are. Rest assured that it’s the friends of these autocrats who got the legal visas. It’s the RWs in our hemisphere who traffic in cocaine and guns.

And folks wonder why there’s such a mess on the border.

By the way way more Venezuelans have fled their country since the US imposed sanctions.
This my way or we’ll starve you to death is an abysmal failure.

The illegal guns and drugs financed our near civil war in the late 70s and 80s. Only yesterday I discovered that one of the five persons arrested in that billion dollars Nigerian cocaine bust is a Jamaican man.

All these gangs and scammers are products of the drug & gun trade and Iran/Contra was the definitive model..

a holdover of colonialism and the cold war. I do believe that
if Reagan had lost and we had on balance more democrats in power, working relationships
with moderate-left governments in CA and SA would have been possible. Look at the
insane position that the right has taken with regard to Cuban trade relations post 1964.
However, Maduro isn't a peach. He's in for himself and his cronies. Sanctions aside,
to a large extent Venezuelan problems are self inflicted. While Chavez could have tried to
diversify and modernize the economy - at least he had the imprimatur of grassroots support.
