As he faces a major new lawsuit from the New York attorney general that could shut down his business, former President Donald Trump will have one advantage that is unavailable to most well-healed defendants: He wont have to pay for much, if any, of his legal defense.
The reason: His political donors are doing it for him.
Recent filings by Save America, Trumps political action committee, show the group has shelled out $1,128,020 this year to lawyers who have spearheaded his and his familys defense in their legal battle with New York Attorney General Letitia James.
These include $942,277 to the law firm of Alina Habba, the New Jersey-based lawyer who has been Trumps lead lawyer in the case. The total includes $207,827 paid just last month. In addition, Alan Futerfas, another longtime Trump lawyer who is representing the former presidents children in the case, received $184,743 from Save America in July.

(14,051 posts)the donations are just going into his pocket. He has no intention of paying them if they don't insist on getting paid in advance.
He can't resist scamming every cent that comes anywhere near an account he has access to.

Together, two of Trump's PACs -- Save America and Make America Great Again PAC -- have paid $1.01 million to the firm of New Jersey-based attorney Alina Habba, according to new campaign disclosure filings.
The first payment to Habba's firm occurred in February 2022, when Trump's campaign committee-turned-PAC paid the firm $10,000.....
Last month, Trump hired a new lawyer, Chris Kise, to represent him in the criminal probe that led to the FBI search of his Mar-a-Lago in August. Save America PAC paid Kise's firm $3 million to cover his work, according to a report from Politico.
In its latest disclosure filing, Save America reported paying another law firm, Critton, Luttier & Coleman LLP, $3 million in August, the single biggest legal expenditure the PAC has reported.
