The Five Stages of Trumpism

DENIAL: "Trump is the Greatest pResident of my lifetime. He couldn't possibly be the lying traitor the Democrats and the complicit media are making him out to be."

ANGER: "There will be rioting in the streets."

BARGAINING: "But what if those documents are proven to be unclassified? But what if it turns out that he didn't falsify his tax returns and his financial statements? But what if it turns out that this was all a political witch-hunt after all?

DEPRESSION: "It's not looking good for our beloved "pResident". He's looking weak and defeated. His rally crowds are getting smaller, and his crack legal team is being smacked down in every courtroom while the investigations into his criminality keep piling up."

ACCEPTANCE: "I never liked Trump, I never trusted him, and I never voted for him. So what other dumb-as-fuck, racist, ignorant asshole, RWNJ can I get behind in 2024? Please advise."

I'm not of the opinion that DeSantis is all that bright. Brazen and calculating, yes. And quite capable of miscalculation as well.

If he's as canny as he is delusional he'd pick smaller wrongnesses to push until his power base is less fragile.
Duval county went blue in 2020. This fact does not bode well for Hitler 2.1 in any iteration. If it goes even close to blue next month DeSantis will need to polish (purge) his resume.

Acceptance would be "Well I liked Trump at the time, but what was I thinking voting for that loser??". They generally never get there. So, the disavowing fifth stage is actually back to DENIAL.

The Repube base loved Orange Jesus for his entertainment value as much as for his racism, xenophobia, and misogyny. DeSatan has no entertainment value.

…sign on the slope behind their house: LET’S GO BRANDON picked out in lights that can be seen from afar. They have loved Donald for years and years, and at various points in time have had a ginormous blue Trump/Pence banner hanging from the second-floor balcony, two flagpoles with a collection of defaced US flags, Gadsden flags, etc. all proclaiming their love and devotion as Trumpistas.

To me they are an object lesson that we liberals are wrong to think it’s only the poor and unlettered who fell for him. No, it’s enraged racists of every class who are eternally grateful that Trump allowed them to let their freak flags fly.

I wonder where they are in their journey? I wonder who they will choose next?

Sending you love from liberal California’s Central Coast,
Hekate

But to your point and mine: what the hell is going on with people like that?

“I’ve got mine; screw you” ? “I am entitled; all the rest of you bow down before me in my greatness” ? “I worked hard to get where I am, you lazy sod, never mind I was born on 3rd base and you were born so far back your parents couldn’t even see the stadium” ?

Went to Medical School when it was cheap, but got in on his own. Always lived in lily-white suburbs. Pro-life conservative Catholic. Long-time Country Club member.

Lacks basic empathy and exposure to American diversity. Gets a real kick out of the Stigginit; thinks Libs are the problem. Just regular White Guy stuff.

More likely they will consider him a martyr or continue praying for him to return as the messiah they believe he is.

There are still people who believe Joseph McCarthy was a hero.

Try this:

Stage 1: Cheerleading. "If you don't love Trump you probably won't like me."

Stage 2: Chaplinskyism. "I'll kick your Mother Fucking ass if you don't love Trump."

Stage 3: Mansonism. "I'll blow your Mother Fucking Shit away if you don't love Trump."

Stage 4: Benedict Arnoldism. "Everyone who doesn't love Trump should be executed for Capital Treason."

Stage 5: Jim Jonesism. "I love Trump so much I'm willing to die for him."

(Chaplinsky v New Hampshire was a Supreme Court case that ruled "fighting words" did not fall under the mantle of constitutionally protected free speech.)
