147 Republicans voted to overturn the free and fair 2020 election results AFTER the insurrectionist mob they aided, abetted, funded and incited just barely failed in their violent attempt to assassinate the Vice-President of the US, the Speaker of the House and "anyone else they could get their hands on".
I will not listen to any of their bs that they "had no idea there would be violence"; their claims now that they "thought it would be a peaceful protest by patriots"; their whining that they "could not have foreseen all the damage and injuries". They voiced their approval of all that had just occurred by voting to overturn the election of President Biden, which is what the whole sick and violent coup attempt was about.
Every damned one of the 147 has demonstrated their unfitness for their position. That any still hold office is a disgrace. IMHO, several of them should die in prison.
"Who knew?"
EVERY DAMNED ONE OF THEM!

(3,905 posts)They are not fit to serve in any office. They tried to overthrow our democracy to serve a former president who lost the presidential election, and their lust for power and wealth. They do not serve the people, nor honor their will.
I think they should be removed for violating their sworn, hallowed oath of office.

Those Republicans betrayed, and continue to betray each and every one of us. When tfg took office in 2017, I never imagined this betrayal. We took solace in that Congress would protect America from that orange buffoon. That, sadly, didn't happen. It was far worse.

Our media corporate overlords would never allow these truths to be repeated and repeated and repeated like the "big steal" was. (286 posts)I do stream and I stream news from around the world. I find news that would never be covered by MSM here. It all began when I found SKY news (admittedly somewhat conservative, but in a UK way) during the first Ukraine stand off over a freezing winter in Kiev in 2014 called the Revolution of Dignity. They also cover events in Africa which would NEVER be included in the eyewitless news here. I have found dozens of news sits around the globe and the little computer translates...... I also find tons of current event things on YouTube, like Glenn Kirschner and I'm fairly well informed about local events as I belong to a few organizations that advocate for social justice, housing justice, food justice anti poverty issues and racial equity. I live in Oakland Calif. so there is a lot to learn that would rarely be found on TV. I find that I in no way miss the vapid TV shows that fill the hours of the evening, so I just stream away.

(286 posts)I just started stumbling around the internet to find what the world was thinking about anything really, not just what the world thinks of the US. Most of the news sources I check in on don't really cover much US news at all. I find out what is happening elsewhere. I have read the fabulous Der Spiegel, the excellent
Al Jazeera, Le Monde, the Glasgow Times, the New Zealand Herald, the Helsinki Times most of the UK publications except the Daily Mail which is like the Enquirer. . EW and a couple of African papers the Botswana Gazette and the South African Mail & Guardian. There are dozens of publications out there and I don't read every word every day I just check out what the content is and click on some of it. I check in on our liberal sites regularly TPM, Koz, Crooks and Liars (cuz I love the name), Mother Jones, The Nation etc.. The Globe if filled with news and it's all out there for us to find and by doing this I do not rely on the corporate overlords to decide what news is appropriate for me to know about and do find out what news they have withheld because it might embarrass some MAGA snowflake.

(113,131 posts)they were going there spoiling for a fight, then there is no excuse for anyone in DC, in that crowd or in government or law enforcement, for not knowing. They knew. The Capitol Police were sent in without proper equipment or backup because they were meant to be oerwhelmed. The whole idea was to use those violent jerks to cause a panic that would get rid of Pence, evacuate Congress, and allow the switcheroo with the envelopes containing the state electoral vote with the fake electors.
It's only quick thinking and fast action by staffers that kept the coup from succeeding. It explains why those Congressmen from states with fake electors objected to the certification of the electoral vote in those states. It's a dead giveaway, those electors weren't the ones they'd been told to expect!
Every damned one of those fake electors needs to be hauled in and put on the spot about this.
The boobs who LARPed violent patriots clearly had no idea what to do once they got into offices. Their only function was to scare Congress out of the chamber and Pence out of the building (to gawd knows where), leaving the boxes containing the envelopes of state electors unattended.
It failed by the width of a whisker. We came so close to losing everything.
They will undoubtedly succeed the next time. I just hope people in the DOJ are connecting the dots this time.

(4,181 posts)Would have allowed the TFG to declare martial law. Game over.
Warpy
(113,131 posts)Stopping Biden from assuming the presidency was their main aim, and if a bunch of people got beaten up or even killed, that was acceptable to the zealots in the Republican Party, the ones who want a fascist Christian dictatorship (never mind TFG was the former but not the latter, not ever, his religion is himself). It was all about Jesus, and any violation of the laws of god or man was acceptable.
Nope, the whole violent mess was a distraction. The point was to keep Biden out of the White House and TFG in it for life.
Martial law would have been later, when the majority of us objected to that.

(2,541 posts)The GOP has known since day 1 how DT is the antithesis of what an American president should be. They knew about his past. His ties to Russia, ties to the mob, his history of fraud narcissism and everything else.
Remember when those Dems came out of that meeting about DT looking just beside themselves with disbelief and shock? Yet even though they looked petrified they were not allowed to tell the rest of us
had they been able to tell us and had the GOP not so completely capitulated to DT in its oversight role thousands of the more then one million Americans who died from COVID might still be alive.
People used to get at least arrested or even life sentences & death sentences for things like treason, fraud, attempting to overthrow the government, stealing National Secrets. The MAL raid was just the tip of this particular crime iceberg. No one believes all those boxes of National Secrets sat there in a store room in the dark for months and never got touched or that that is the totality of the documents he took. Who knows who has looked at these or where else other documents are. We know for a fact that one of the people that hung out at MAL was a Chinese spy.
Its fucking unbelievable how much this asshole did and to see the DOJ tip toe around it. They actually asked DT for several months to return the TS docs before executing the raid. For months they knew TS docs were there unsecured, why they did not immediately pounce on him makes no sense. Can you even imagine how fast justices would have been had it been Dems that did all these things, I cant.

(19,600 posts)The black caucus, comprising Florida Dems, protested the awarding of electoral votes from Florida to bush. Al Gore told them they couldn't go on with the protest, because no Senator had signed on to support it.
That was it. No rebellion, no storming the Capitol and no threats of death from anyone who actually was cheated out of their leadership.

In 2016, when Hilary won the popular vote, 7 electors voted for a candidate other than their own party. There was no rebellion, attak on the Capitol or death threats against sitting, elected officials participating in the count: https://www.nytimes.com/elections/2016/results/president
