Wonderful to see Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter out today for 25th annual Peanut Festival parade in Plains

It’s a beautiful day for a ride in the red convertible given to them by Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. ☀️🥜

Over 30 years out of office and good people all over America still love the couple.

30 years from now if the name Trump is spoken it will be with a turning of the head and spitting.

Nixon , Ford, Carter, and That Bastard Reagan (as I always refer to him).

In my opinion, President Carter got a really raw deal. I loved that one off his first actions was pardoning all of the Vietnam War draft resisters. He had a LOT of accomplishments - the Camp David accords, creating the Departments of Education and Energy, and the Panama Canal treaties.

I had the highest respect for him.

I left the Air Force in 1984 before That Bastard Reagan got re-elected (. No way was I going to serve another hitch under him.)

If I remember correctly, he said something to that effect, that his administration was the first in the 20th century to have never fired a shot in anger at an enemy.

And so far, the only one.

Lovely community. The high school they attended is a museum now that faces segregation head on. Our visit was totally worth leaving the beaten path from Atlanta to Tallahassee. Glad we did it.

Unfortunately, he wasn't showman enough for a lot of people, or fake warm for others. But he was a trained engineer and wanted to make America work again. And yes, I was glad he pardoned the Vietnam protesters. Even in that he was caught between a rock and a hard place. To some, he didn't do enough because there were conditions attached, and for others who thought that was shameful, that anyone who didn't serve when asked was criminal and should serve time. (Of course, many of those are those whose draft number didn't come up and so were not personally affected by the draft, or those who had already served in peacetime or another war and were never faced with the moral and physical dilemma that was Vietnam.

May the Carters live long and prosper.
