fact check from Daniel Dale re Fentanyl being brought in over the border. IMPORTANT FACT. Listen:

“Fentanyl being seized is more proof that the border is not actually open.. The vast majority of the seizures happen at the legal ports of entry.. and the vast majority of the time it is being brought in by US citizens or legal residents”

It doesn't mean we have "open borders" or whatever...
This stuff has been going on forever and it's always campaign fodder.

hooked on the stuff in the first place. Especially teenagers. Why such a huge market for that shit? And, why aren't they doing anything about it, other than pointing they fingers in blame? (Yeah, I know the answer to that last question. It's all they have.)

Now, the opiate scandal in the courts was scaled back a decade ago, 2006 to 2012. So unless those teens were addicted in elementary school that's not the cause. And given that the numbers *outside* of the originally affected communities are increasing, another reason is needed. The easy answer doesn't account for the data and makes false predictions.

Or maybe it's because the stuff's so addictive, and a lot of kids call it "self-medicating" (because, well, medication for anxiety is good, and if it feels good it must be good, and why should they not have power over their own bodies and actions?)

A better question is, Where is the fentanyl and its cheap precursors originating? And if so much is intercepted at border crossings, how's the rest getting in? Or is it being made domestically?

A lot of it gets smuggled in via Mexican cartels, and a lot comes in directly via the mail, airplanes, etc. Here's a pretty good article about it:

https://www.npr.org/2020/11/17/916890880/we-are-shipping-to-the-u-s-china-s-fentanyl-sellers-find-new-routes-to-drug-user

It's a messy, difficult problem, and I don't know if there's any solution to it, other than getting everyone to understand just how dangerous this drug is. I don't know what that would take. Watching so many people die from it doesn't seem to be enough.

Republican verifies that republicans are the main abusers of fentanyl.

J.D. Vance’s claim that Biden is targeting ‘MAGA voters’ with fentanyl

“If you wanted to kill a bunch of MAGA voters in the middle of the heartland, how better than to target them and their kids with this deadly fentanyl? … It does look intentional. It’s like Joe Biden wants to punish the people who didn’t vote for him and opening up the floodgates to the border is one way to do it.”

Just about every social problem you can think of is worse in Republican controlled states, and their policies and habits are a direct cause for most of them. Is it any surprise that drug addiction is part of the list?
