How Putin helped Giorgia Meloni's fascist party win in Italy.

It is not what you might think.

After Russia invaded Ukraine, Meloni condemned the war, supported weapons to Ukraine, and the expansion of NATO. She marched in lockstep with with her fellow fascists/Cristianists in Poland, the Law & Justice Party.

The more Putin friendly RW/Popularist parties, the 5 Star Movement, Berlusconi's Forza Italia and the Italian League offered mealy mouthed excuses for doing nothing. Their vote collapsed in 2022, with most of their voters going to Meloni's 'Brothers of Italy'. The mainstream Center Left Democratic Party held its own.

The reason Giorgia Meloni's election is causing such alarm is that her 'Brothers of Italy' party is a descent of the Italian Social Movement (MSI) which was formed after the war by supports of Mussolini. It has kept the same logo, a tricolor torch, and has praised Mussioni on some occasions. Melonoi's win is obvious encouragement to those who would like to revisit pre-WWII fascism in name, if not in foreign policy.

Ms. Meloni is at pains to assert her party’s mainstream credentials. This especially takes the form of a staunchly Atlanticist foreign policy — commitment to the European Union and NATO and firm opposition to Russia and China.

To not have pleasant thoughts.

She's the shiny happy people of the Far Right - similar to Ron DeSantis. They threw a woman up there to 'soften' the look.

Are where the center and left held.

Her government falls apart - because they (the right) will not be able to form a coalition with Russia's aggressive war on Ukraine going on. Berlusconi(Forza) and Salvini (Nord) are Putin Taint Lickers.

She's harshly opposed to abortion, LGBTQ rights, and believes that surrogates are an abomination.

This means - the Democratic Party won't rub shoulders with her.

Do not trust her - do NOT. I beg you for the homosexual men in my husband's family that live in Italy. I beg you for protestants and for women in Italy - do not trust this sneaky evil little piece of shit.

She can shove right off with focusing on what 'unites us' (for me Italian Citizenship) as opposed to 'what divides us' - every thing else.

I'm a 'new' Italian. I will NEVER unite with her just as I will NEVER unite with MAGATS here in the USA.

I PRAY she fails, fails big, and it happens within a year.

I was trying to explain how she won. If Salvini survives as leader, he will take her down.

And knock a meter off of Berlusconi when they do it.

Look at how much damage Trump did in just ONE year.

I hope she fails spectacularly.

Closely aligned with Rienzi. Several who won their seats again. They aren't going to make this easy for her at all.

anti-establishment of course, lots of environmental posturing, refused to unite with the center left Democratic Party to control the RW.

They're given to utopian fantasies, including eliminating representative democracy in favor of direct on-line voting. The results have not exactly affirmed the democratic ideal being shot for or always upheld the party's claimed LW ideals (Wonder if results have been found to correlate current social media fads, and which ones.) Fun to read about, and I'm sure Putin appreciates them also.
