(34,472 posts)Ryan Hall Y'all is going live a little later this morning. I'll post a link when it's up. He's really good. He has chasers out and his partners at Radar Omega have placed about a dozen mini weather stations/cameras along the coast to measure wind speed and storm surge, so you can see what's happening in real time.
I can't believe how much this beast blew up last night. It stayed at Cat. 3 for so long.

(60,346 posts)The storm will be much weaker but the rain will mean a lot of flooding here.
Stay safe Florida!

(19,204 posts)because I have a feeling the Fort Myers fishing pier will cease to exist by late afternoon. 🌀

(11,929 posts)She said right now they're fine, wind hasn't been too bad yet, with minor street flooding. They're in the orange zone (zone B). They feel they'll be OK as long as they don't have prolonged electric outage (due to refrigeration, ac, etc.). My nephew (an Army Ranger) is there with them and helped them get prepped with hurricane shutters, food, water, etc. It makes me feel a little better knowing he's there rather than a 84yo and 55yo on their own.

(19,204 posts)You're correct. It's always good to have someone younger around to do things seniors shouldn't be doing before, during, and after one of these bad boys.
Now I'm the senior citizen, but I'm far, far away from any hurricane country.
Keep everyone safe down there.

On edit, they've left after they got knocked around a bit.
( Can't say I was never such an idiot...)

(7,339 posts)Idiots. One of them even jumped in from way down the pier.
Then they decided to up their stupidity level and play just upstream of the pier pilings. The least athletic one finally got smashed into a piling, and I hope they called it quits.
Wonder what they tell their parents about what they were doing today?
Yikes.
