The last caller on Thom Hartmann just mentioned his gas prices at Costco have gone up.
Are your gas prices still declining or are they ticking back up?
Mine in North Alabama have just reached $2.999 for regular for the first time since they passed that level on the way up.

(13,979 posts)I hope its not a trend. Rising gas prices could hurt our chances in November, even though Democrats cant do anything about them.

(21,753 posts)$4.oo a gallon used to be considered a psychological tipping point, so stations would try to keep it below that. I don't know if that still holds true.

Interesting math given that Florida only generates 3% of US fuel, and less than 60% of their refineries shut down overbthe hurricane.
So, gas went up 10% over a possible 1.8% temporary drop in supply while the industry is running at 84% of capacity.
Things that make you go "Hmmmm".

(6,019 posts)Needless to say, the electric is getting a lot more use these days. I think oil companies, refiners and station owners have figured out people will buy gas anyway - price inelasticity. I'm sure they're going to hose everyone as hard as they can for as long as they can.

(28,817 posts)Here in metro east IL people regularly go across the river to buy gas in MO where its normally about 20 cents cheaper due to lower gas tax.

(11,917 posts)In Michigan, not only do we have 18 cents a gallon federal tax and 51.7 cents a gallon state tax, we also get to pay sales taxes of 6% on the total price including the federal & state tax.

(4,139 posts)There are lots of places where gas is under $3/gal and the majority of stations have seen diesel drop under $5/gal where it seemed they had been stuck for weeks.
