DeSantis can run, but he shouldn’t hide from his Lev Parnas problem

But the reaction of DeSantis in particular makes it look as if he has something to hide. He’s not taking questions about Parnas, much less answering them.

Mum may be the word in Tallahassee, but Parnas has been on a #LetLevSpeak media blitz. Democrats are promoting him as a Deep Throat-caliber player in the impeachment drama.

Parnas was in cahoots with Rudy Giuliani to dig up Ukrainian dirt on Joe Biden. Wwho knows what other election subterfuge he was up to?

Since then, Parnas released an 83-minute video of a 2018 dinner he and other fundraisers had with Trump. Among other things, they discussed Scott’s chances of winning that year’s Senate race against Bill Nelson.

By now, it should shock no one that Trump would lie about knowing Parnas and Fruman. We expected more out of DeSantis, who continues to bask in the post-election goodwill of Floridians but should understand that popularity can be fleeting.

He hasn’t out-and-out lied, but his spokesperson initially issued a craftily-worded statement saying “the governor does not have a relationship with these individuals.”

There was certainly a monetary relationship. DeSantis returned a $50,000 contribution Parnas and Fruman made to his political action committee.

He downplayed any connection, saying Parnas was "like any other donor. Nothing more than that.”

Subsequent stories revealed Parnas met with DeSantis at least six times, he hosted two fundraisers, they hugged like old school chums at DeSantis’ victory party, and Parnas was designated a VVIP (very, very important person) at the governor’s inauguration.

That doesn't exactly sound like "any other donor."
