https://www.dailykos.com/story/2022/9/29/2126038/-Judge-Cannon-hands-Donald-Trump-an-early-Christmas-gift-by-interfering-with-special-masterJust because Judge Aileen Cannon gifted Donald Trump with a special master, and let him pick who he wanted to serve in that role, does not mean shes done with stepping in to provide Trump another damn the law, full-speed ahead gift of a ruling. Just one day after Trumps attorneys complained that they couldnt meet the deadlines Special Master Judge Raymond Dearie had set, Cannon stepped in to not only give Trump more timeshe actually extended her own deadlines, bumping the closing date all the way back to Dec. 16.
In addition, Cannon nixed a critical step of the plan that Dearie had laid out. In any special master proceeding, both sides have to agree on the inventory of documents to be reviewed. Otherwise, its not possible to be sure that everything that needed to be dealt with has actually been dealt with. But Cannon never ordered Trump to declare that the list given to him by the Department of Justice was accurate, or to claim that there were documents left off, or to say that there were some things that were on the list but should not be.
Just as theyve been making noise about Trump declassifying documents without presenting one bit of evidence this ever happened, Trumps legal team has also been insinuating that the Department of Justice might have planted evidence at Mar-a-Lago. Dearies insistence that Trump agree to the inventory, or state his objections, was designed to not only get the proceedings moving, but end any possibility that Trump would later claim some of the evidence was planted. Now Cannon has removed that obligation. The DOJ has to give an inventory and swear to its accuracy. Trump doesnt have to swear to anything.
Once again, Cannon has given Trump even more than he asked for, and this is after the 11th Circuit called her to task for all the issues with her previous ruling.
*snip*
Stunningly corrupt.

(972 posts)WTF!!?
After they said he had no right to the classified stuff but now she writes he gets to look at up to 200,000 pages
of the other stuff or the classified stuff?
Crap I cant take her obvious duplicity.

(42,700 posts)This has nothing to do with the classified documents.
DOJ won't bother trying to challenge her ruling.

(81,238 posts)I was just wondering about that! What kind of wheeler-dealing did he do with her to get all these sweetheart rulings from her?
Free accommodations at Mar-a-Lago? Free hotel rooms at Bedminster or one of his other hotel/resorts?

(17,536 posts)I suspect that DOJ will be filing next week, again... The game is delay, Trump is winning...today.
The 11th needs to snatch a knot in cannons fuse.

(15,601 posts)DOJ is proceeding with its criminal investigation of the classified documents, so Cannons ruling allowing delay of the privilege review of the other docs really doesnt matter IMO.

(6,526 posts)I only worry about how it will impact the Grand Jury indictment. He can't possibly say that ALL the docs were planted. But, if he doesn't make the claim and specify which ones, then how does he get past his little drama?
I'm guessing the truth is that Donald hasn't the faintest idea of what they took, or what they mean. He has only the document inventory to go by, and Cannon knows this. I guess he got what he wants, delay.
But, I can't find where the 200,000 pages are verified by the Gov. So, let's take Donald's word for it. After all, this is what Cannon hung her ruling on.
What happened to Donald's "Custodian of Documents?" What a piss poor job she did!

(42,700 posts)he objects to the inventory, he "shall" raise that objection. So if he doesn't, the result is the same as before -- either he effectively concedes the inventory is accurate or he challenges it in court. It's just delayed.

(13,582 posts)Cannon is trying to get out of this case and it looks like she has found a way. Hand this whole thing over to Judge Dearie. That way TFGs only way out of this mess is to drop this case.

(21,563 posts)Perhaps DOJ should just ask if she intends to serve as special master? Dearie should resign the position if she won't allow him to do his job.
