(26,603 posts)Also a bit surprised that that there weren't already procedures in place to prevent this (but maybe competitive fishing is--or was--the last honorable sport)...

(182,861 posts)fishing tournaments. Smaller stakes but still a big deal. People with ample means competing for a couple thousand backs in the pool. Weekly pay outs. They police themselves and know if something is iffy.

(576 posts)I live near the rod and gun club. Years ago they had a woodchuck hunt. The hats and mugs read "Woodchuck hunt '99: Look out, they are getting smarter". ha ha. Wasn't sure if the smarters were the animal chucks or the people chucks. The guy in charge of the BBQ was wearing a black t-shirt with a pic of a red/white/blue condom and it read "Cover me. I'm going in". ha ha, holy crap. Anyway, on Monday, two students told me that they won. (The chucks are weighed and heaviest wins). They said they cheated. They shot a chuck a year ago, filled it with 7 Up and froze it, then thawed it for the contest. Wow, what kids will use their smarts for!

(81,565 posts)Observers and officials had suspected Cominsky and Runyon as long ago as last year the YouTube video was titled, in part, "Lake Erie Walleye Trail Cheater Chase Cominsky and Jake Runyan finally got caught."
In 2021, the Toledo Blade reported that Cominsky and Runyan were disqualified from the Fall Brawl fishing event, after they had apparently won, because one of them had failed a polygraph test.
