More and more videos of the aftermath of Ian in Fort Myers are showing up on YouTube (Edited)

Some incredible footage is being posted.

(For those of you unfamiliar, the island in the above video, Matlacha is pronounced "Matt Lashay".)

There are dozens more.

Edited to add the following; The NOAA website has new satellite imagery of the whole area, taken in subsequent days. Here's the imagery from 9/30. You can move around with your mouse and zoom in;

Thought maybe you could see if they were damaged, but then the post disappeared- looked like maybe it was being thread hijacked?

After reading it a few times it just seemed it was trivial subject matter in the larger scheme of things.

I don't like to seem to vain when I post stuff, and after reflection, that thread about the Mail ticked that box in a big way!

Looking at the big sorting center in those images now, it looks like it came through fine. The roof looks intact, there is no visible sand or major debris over the roadways leading in and out and no trailers overturned.

Having said that, the PO on Ft. Myers Beach also seems to be intact, but it is only a couple blocks away from the Lani Kai where that incredible storm surge vid was taken, so the building almost certainly got flooded, though it still is standing.

In the image below the Post Office is the square building with the white roof, at the end of the long rectangular red roof. You can see the parking lot is cluttered and there are no vehicles present. The loading dock is under the smaller square portion on the north side.

By the way, there was a woman that had posted on Twitter about her 80-something mother not evacuating Fort Myers Beach and not hearing from her- water was coming up the stairs in her house- Just found out they located her and she is fine! A bit of good news.

Like the guy who rode out the storm on his sailboat! Even having others come onboard. It was in a marina on the beach and got moved behind a building by the waves, but the building acted as a windbreak.

Yeah...lots of incredible stories, and unfortunately lots of tragic ones will come to light in the days ahead.

All of my family lived in SW FL at one point or another. My parents house in Miami was a victim of Andrew in 1992, and they moved to Port Charlotte/Englewood. My oldest brother lived on Estero Island in the 80's, lived in various places around Ft. Myers and then built a home East of I-75, south of the airport. He moved away after Hurricane Irma, when the eye passed directly over his house!

I rented apartments in Ft. Myers and Bonita Springs and my sister and other brother had homes and condos on Cape Coral and Lehigh.

So the entire family is familiar with that area and we have many friends and acquaintances there. I am saddened to see how many lives have been utterly decimated.

Yes, terrible scenes of devastation and yet..... yet...... OK, I know this makes me a bad person but all I could think of watching these was..... yep, all those Florida representatives voting against disaster relief. From the top "leadership" of the state to the newest GQPers in Congress they downplayed and ignored this storm. They voted AGAINST disaster relief to a person! All of those homes built so close to the shoreline. What do you want to bet that they were heavily insured? How much of THAT cost will we all take on the chin so they can ignore the science and worse actively DENY the root causes?

It seems like every year we have to bail out Texas/Mississippi/Alabama/Florida etc. because they just can't stop building and rebuilding and re-rebuilding on the same plots of land. So what will be these states response? They will elect MORE GQPers and cut their taxes on the rich in their states even more. Guess who will be left footing the bill after NEXT years big storm?

And realize the right thing to do is NOT rebuilding bigger and better in the exact same areas. The barrier islands and beachfront should be left to nature.

This is going to happen again more frequently and possibly before they even finish cleaning this mess up.
