TFG said to his followers on his webpage.
I feel like there needs to be a Trump Response Team on standby at all times. He has to be called on his bullshit and his lies. We cannot let them slide.
First of all, they are not "his" documents. By law, they belong to the National Archives and the American people.
Second of all, he has no "executive privilege" in regards to stealing national secrets and taking them to his country club. It is a crime. It is a serious crime.
Thirdly, he cannot lie to the FBI. That also is a crime.
Fourthly, he cannot obstruct a DOJ investigation by getting others to lie for him. That is a crime.
Also, he cannot wave a magic wand and change the classification of any document. That changes nothing.
He is not exempt from the laws of our Constitution.

(32,717 posts)Not that anyone believed him. 🙄 This is the same routine we've seen from him for years now: deny --> (chaos) --> confess --> (chaos) --> deflect --> (new crime exposed) --> rinse / repeat.
Lawmakers, the media, and Justice officials get spun around and confused and then everything is swept under the rug.

(11,872 posts)We passionately care about justice, honesty, and the law.
The GOP DOES NOT. No lie is too bald faced to shame them or make them care.
They only care about power.
The lust for power and control of the other (us) has corrupted everything.
You must get exhausted pointing this out. I know I am.

(92,273 posts)Even asking the DOJ to present arguments in a week is a dangerous precedent, which implies that trump has "ownership" to classified documents.
He does not
There is something very sick going on, and it is pretty clear there are judges in high places that have been compromised

(21,509 posts)demands for the return of "his" documents are very dangerous signs in the ongoing coup. This is very bad.

(13,871 posts)I knew a guy who spent 6 months in the federal pen for lying before a grand jury. It turned out that the penalty for lying to the FBI would have been more severe than the grand jury charge that he pled to.

(3,330 posts)What if he were legally restricted from running for any local, state or federal office ad infinitum. in trade for returning said documents and no Jail time? Note, He could still be convicted.
For me, while I think this is a little bit attractive from an efficiency perspective, as a country I think our constitution demands it's pound of flesh. (there is a easy joke in there)

(7,263 posts)THAT is why TFG is trying to extend the game.
He, and the rest of the QOP, know that as soon as they get 2/3rds of the reins of power back, Democracy and The Constitution is dead.
THAT is why they NEED to keep control of The Court.
THAT is why The Democrats ignoring expanding it to 11 or 13 puts all of US at peril.
It also explains the literally killer comedy team of Abbot & DeathSentance, and H.Walker, and Gaetz, and MTG, and Cruz, and Rubio, and Hawley.
They all THINK they are going to remain in power REGARDLESS of the Vote totals.
And the ONLY SURE way to defeat their nefarious purposes is to Rock The Vote and cause a HUGE Blue Wave at the polls.
One that cannot be overcome by any sort of shenanigans by the traitorous rethuglican party in toto. All of them - not just Maga't idiots.

"Sources close to Trump agree with outside legal experts that such a sweeping legal maneuver would be a long-shot, at best. 'I hate to break it to the [former] president, but I do not think he is going to get all [the] top-secret documents back,' says one Trump adviser. 'That ship has probably sailed,'" said the report. "Further, several longtime Trump advisers say they want absolutely nothing to do with the now-infamous boxes of documents, fearing that any knowledge of them could invite an unwanted knock on the door from the feds. 'Who would want any of that back? If it is what they say it is, keep them the hell away,' a second adviser says."
According to previous reports, some of the documents are classified at the highest level, and may involve nuclear weapons secrets.
Another recent report indicated that Trump had over 300 classified documents stashed at Mar-a-Lago and that he personally sorted through all the documents to determine which ones he wanted to hold back from the National Archives, a potential sign he was aware of the risk to national security but went through with it anyway.
"The former presidents office claimed recently that Trump had issued a so-called 'standing order' to automatically declassify any materials taken from the West Wing in order to facilitate a flexible work schedule for the then-president," said the report. "Thus far, no Trump administration veterans have come forward to attest to the existence of the legally questionable order. But it has prompted, as Rolling Stone reported last week, FBI agents to begin questioning former members of the Trump National Security Council about whether they have any recollection of such an order."
TFG needs to hire some real attorneys if he wants to get this result
