Christian Nation

I just read a Pew Research study article. It said 45% of people think the US should be a “Christian Nation”. It also says a vast majority do believe there should be no government religion. It seems people believe in Christian values… but not religious laws.

Needless to say the Christian Taliban want a theocracy. You can bet when they finally get their Constitutional Convention, they’ll want religious LAWS too.

From the article and very revealing “ Furthermore, the new survey finds that nearly eight-in-ten people who say the U.S. should be a Christian nation also say the Bible should have at least some influence on U.S. laws, including slightly more than half (54%) who say that when the Bible conflicts with the will of the people, the Bible should prevail.‘

A great article though. Several graphs too. Recommend reading it.

lead off with some explanation and questions about sharia law and islamic countries under theocratic law, then ask if that form of government is ok for america if the theocrats only looked at the christian bible instead of the koran.

then ask some questions about the 1,000+ denominations of christianity with different beliefs and the massive rift between the political views of the christian left vs. the christian right.

then ask if they knew that the early european settlers in america came here specifically to LEAVE countries with an official religion.

then ask if they understand that a theocracy may eventually turn to a different religion, and if they're christian, would they be ok if someday america became an islamic nation if the population were to shift.

then ask if they think it's arrogant or elitist or just plain obnoxious to impose one's religious views on other people who may not even be part of the same religion.

of course you get different answers if you just present "the bible" or "religion" or "christianity" as a neutral or good source of values. or don't explain some of the implications of mixing religion and government.
