I just had lunch with a former co-worker. We hadn't seen each other for 5 years and he just retired. (I've been retired for 5 years now.)
In our discussion, he mentioned that the Dems want to take away Medicare and Social Security. When I asked him where he got this info, he said Carl Levin. Nothing got resolved in our discussion, but you can see why so many are getting away from the Democrats if they believe these lies.
We need to be better at messaging if this is what is being said out there. I'm betting that there are many out there who think the same as he does.
EDIT: NOT Carl Levin but Mark Levin.

(5,815 posts)when it gets taken away by Republicans , isnt he? Low information voters should not vote, but unfortunately they do, and way too often they f*ck everything up for the rest of us. 🤬

(4,616 posts)I hear a lot about messaging. How do you "message" to those who don't and won't hear? Do you think if the republicans in Oklahoma hear the DEMS messaging it's going to change their minds? What about the miners in Kentucky that are sitting around waiting for their coal mining jobs to come back? People actually thought there was a child sex trafficking ring run by Hillary Clinton in the basement of a Pizza place in DC and acted on it with violence for pete's sake! A very large swath of the country was ingesting horse de-wormer, fish pond cleaner and disinfectants for a virus. The message has been out there for years. Yet the same and more people keep voting in the very same ones who got them in their situations now. How many times have you heard a citizen on tv say "vote them all out". Have you ever seen it actually happen? Republicans messaged for decades about overturning ROE, rolling back the voting rights act, trickle down economics, ending SS and more. And DEMS warned for decades what would happen if republicans ever got complete control. See current Supreme Court. Well here we are, and now everyone is shocked. So what is this magic new messaging that hasn't worked in decades but will now? I'm not trying to be flippant, honestly. I just don't see how messaging is the silver bullet in a country with a large percentage of it's citizens who can't process more than 140 characters at a time, will believe posters on Reddit over the CDC, are not the least bit interested in acquiring any knowledge for themselves but instead depend on others (Like Hannity or Trump) to do their thinking for them and judge their own worth by how many likes they get on Facebook or followers they have on Twitter. I keep hearing people say "This is not who we are." Well, I disagree. It IS who we are. As a country. And I don't have any idea how to change it or if it is even possible at this stage. I'm still optimistic and hope like hell the citizens of the US will come through. But, I'm hoping for the best, while at the same time expecting the worst.
