UN chief warns 'we will be doomed' without historic climate pact

(Guardian UK) Rich countries must sign a “historic pact” with the poor on the climate, or “we will be doomed”, the UN secretary-general, António Guterres, has warned, as a deepening gulf between the developed and developing world has put climate talks on the brink.

The stark warning comes as world leaders start to gather for the UN Cop27 climate summit, which opens on Sunday in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, but which even the hosts admit will be the most difficult in at least a decade.

Cop27 is taking place amid the worst geopolitical tensions for years, over the Ukraine war, a spiralling global cost of living crisis, and deepening economic gloom.

But the gulf must be bridged if humanity is to have a hope of avoiding the worst ravages of climate breakdown, Guterres said.

“There is no way we can avoid a catastrophic situation, if the two [the developed and developing world] are not able to establish a historic pact,” he told the Guardian in an interview on the eve of the summit. “Because at the present level, we will be doomed.” ..............(more)

3. The global oligarchs and political leaders have no problem with massive deaths from climate change.

Or upheaval, pain and suffering.

The wealthy and powerful will be protected, they are buying up land in areas that they think will be
protected. And are paying Musk to build space stations off planet.

This is the REAL conspiracy. Make as much money as you can so you can dictate who lives and dies when the planet cannot support the life currently on it.

I have some advantages in that I don't have to move as I already live in the Great Lakes region which is predicted to become a haven for climate change refugees.

To add to food security, I've been converting my entire backyard into a vegetable garden and orchard. A task that has taken me years so far and I have a bit more to go. I have several other related projects going on too but my physical limitations and a very tight budget requires me to spread them out time wise.

Great location for upcoming climate change.

And working a stable, affordable food supply.

Not batshit crazy, crates of MRE's and arsenals of guns doomsday prepper, but developing more self sufficiency skills. Think of your grandparents and great-grandparents in the Great Depression and WW2 rationing days.

Grow a garden. Have some chickens or rabbits. Fruit and nut trees instead of shade trees (lots of species can be both). Fix broken things yourself if you can. Build a network of neighbors so you can help each other (your 21st century tribe of sorts). Learn to hunt and fish if that's a viable thing in your area.

War and climate catastrophe.

I am definitely not leaving the Great Lakes region.

It’s gonna be all about water…fresh water.

Fox News is a huge player in the systematic denial of climate change, we need to tell them where they can shove it if we are going to get anything meaningful passed.
