(25,987 posts)what started out bad has become terrifying and horrific. It's heartbreaking to watch the coverage. Hopefully everyone in Idabel, OK reached shelter. There are several tornadoes going at once, at least two monsters on the ground right now in TX and OK, and a new tornado warning ringing out every few minutes. It's crazy.
Everybody pay attention and take shelter. Be safe.

(25,987 posts)That said, I don't think he realized how bad it was going to be, and is taken aback by the sheer number and strength of the storms. It's been a while since I've heard warnings about getting in shelter or underground "or you will not survive." It's terrible that it's at night, making rescue more difficult. I just hope everyone is hearing the warnings and finding a safe place to be.

(34,135 posts)just saw this. We have had an inch and a half of rain so far but no severe warnings up in NE Kansas. In fact we have winter advisories with a possibility of 2 inches of snow to our South and West. We are just sitting here in the cooler weather watching the pond fill back up.
Be safe everyone. It used to be our weather for most of my life but it seems to have moved elsewhere. Whew!

(269,225 posts)Giant tornado he says crossing Red River
That is terrifying. I hope nobody here is very close to that. Oh that is just horrible.
I feel like we are living the disaster movies of our scariest movies.
I wish I could do more than the usual. Maybe later. I know how that feels.

(9,216 posts)and rain since then, which will continue until about noon tomorrow. But the temperature is in the 30s; too cold for a tornado.

(86,867 posts)I watched a trees limb get blown up the street, uphill, earlier in the day.
Last winter I watched snowballs rolling uphill on their own, it was kind of creepy.

(269,225 posts)I am, put up everything that could fly away a couple days ago. We had warnings from NWS about it. Did I mention it was freezing since Thursday?
Only now that I looked it is suddenly +38F right now, but very windy with occasion snow bursts. Winter has arrived. It usually makes the transition within a few hours. It was almost +70F on Wednesday and is still warm on the eastern end of the state, until tomorrow. We're expecting snow every day for several days which is good. A solid snow pack by Thanksgiving is a really good thing as long as it keeps snowing and stays cold.

(90,793 posts)Kind of funny, really. From not knowing there was a bad cell close by (Texas is only a few miles away from me) to a tornado warning.
Glad we didn't get worse.

(58,751 posts)several rivers set to crest tonight by midnight. They're a bit north and east of me. The local river has a flood control dam up in the hills and it's doing OK so far. More heavy rain this weekend, though. Got one of those atmospheric rivers aimed at us.

(58,751 posts)If the snowpack stays for the winter and builds up, it will replentish the resevoirs and we could be out of trouble on that.
Last year, we had an early storm like this, but then had a warm spell that melted a lot of the snow pack off. East of the mountains had it a lot worse than us in the west. They get a lot less direct rain, and when the snow pack fails them, the water supply dwindles.

(65,262 posts)But, it's really windy.
30mph, gusts in the 40s, and from the southeast, which is an unusual direction here, any time of year.
Warmer than normal too, which does suggest atypical atmospheric volatility somewhere.
