Dems need to be more wise about where we spend our money

Pouring $200 million into Texas and Georgia to help out Beto and Abrams was just a colossal mistake. That money would've been better served helping Beasley in N.C. She needed help and almost pulled out a victory. Also, Barnes should've gotten more help in WI.

We have a tendency to fall in love with certain candidates that have no prayer of winning their races, while we let other fall by the wayside. I love Beto and Abrams too, but we should've been more real about their prospects. We can't let other good candidates in winnable races go with little resources due to this.

It was the same in 2020 when people were sending all their money to the woman who ran against McConnell. She never had a realistic chance but we deluded ourselves into thinking she did.

5. Yes, Amy McGrath. She got a boatload of money and had no prayer of winning in KY

I live in KY, so I know. I liked Amy personally, but we have to be smart about putting our money into certain races. I'm sick at the stomach that Beasley was let out to dry while we spent so much in races that were not winnable.

3. Don't agree with Abrams/GA because Warnock got helped from people showing up for Abrams.

As far as TX, I agree. But we have to look closely if some of the surprise flips in TX got helped by those money. Sometimes, the top of tickets spending helps the local races a lot.

His candidacy helped many of the Dems that did win in Texas!

Not only did we ALL lose a Democratic Senate seat - in a year when it is essential to hold onto the Senate majority - lackluster turnout in NC's Democratic cities lost us the state Supreme Court and now we're facing a super-majority in the state legislature.

All of this would have been different if we had had more support from the Democratic Party! Rallies led by President Obama, ads refuting the lies the Republicans spewed about Beasley, an on-the-ground effort to get out the vote. I think we would have had a blue wave in NC. An opportunity wasted.

6. I'm wondering is both Beto and Abrams are better suited for other positions

Neither seem to be able to bring it home on a statewide level. Are there other positions within the adminstration or party they would be a better fit for?

7. Who sent $200 million to Beto?

It was all likely private donors and local Texas political parties.

There was no help from out of state groups.

We absolutely would not have the two Senate seats in Georgia without the work of Stacey Abrams -- period, full stop. And there has already been articles written about how Beto helped reverse the notion that the southern border areas of Texas were going red. Neither Abrams nor Beto won, but they at least set the stage for current and future Democratic wins in their state.

And it's funny you bring up Barnes as a candidate where money should have instead been spent, since I have said elsewhere that I believe he was arguably our worst performing candidate, all things considered. I don't know that more money would have fixed his inherent problems. His competitors in the Democratic primary basically backed out and let him run unopposed to win the nomination and he did absolutely nothing with it. Poor campaigner, poor fundraiser, just not a good candidate, especially for that state.

I also think that we won't change anyone's minds. You can bet the farm that there will posts in 2024 like "So and so has raised $900 to whoever Rick Scott is running against in FL."

I love Beto and admire him, but he has had his chance to prove he can win, and hasn't been successful. Time to invest more in areas where we have a better shot, and into developing more rising stars for the party.

I do recognize that for the last month it was clear we couldn't win against Kemp, but it was not a foregone conclusion earlier.

Sometimes you just have to try.

If for no other reason, the GOP had to spend money to counter our ads to ensure their leads.
