Philadelphia InquirerPennsylvania Democrats believe they have taken control of the state House for the first time in more than a decade, an outcome that was considered a long shot by even the most optimistic Democrats but that has not yet been confirmed by independent analysts.
Republicans on Wednesday said the declaration of victory was premature. Theyre pinning their hopes on a handful of close races in the Philadelphia suburbs where the candidates are separated by hundreds or in some cases just dozens of votes.
Even if Republicans retained control, the surprise showing by Democrats still indicated that strong victories in statewide races for governor and U.S. Senate may have helped carry the party in down-ballot races. Democrats in other swing states outperformed expectations, including in Michigan, where the party won control of the legislature for the first time in decades.
Democrats said it showed that a favorable redistricting process in Pennsylvania gave them a fighting chance, and that swing voters were moved by Harrisburgs now-total control over abortion policy in Pennsylvania.

There are a handful of Pennsylvania House races that could determine the balance of power in the chamber. One of those is the 142nd state House district race in Bucks County between Democrat Mark Moffa and Republican Joe Hogan.
Moffa is leading with only two votes, according to preliminary election results Wednesday afternoon. He has 15,095 votes to Hogans 15,093.
Earlier in the day, Hogan held a 3-vote lead.
I will win, Moffa said in an interview with WHYY on Wednesday afternoon.

This wasn't even on my wish list because it seemed so flatly impossible!

(15,289 posts)6. If all holds,
Ds would be at 102 of 203 House seats, a majority of 1 seat.

(15,289 posts)8. Where it stands now, Dems have won 101 seats
in a 203 seat state House.
There are two very close races. The aforementioned lower Bucks County based HD-142 with D Moffa ahead by 2 votes. And the eastern Montgomery County Horsham-based HD-151 where incumbent R Todd Stephens leads by 26 votes.
Also, Summer Lee ran unoppsed and won her district, but she is headed to Congress in Jan. Austin Davis also won, but he will become LtGov in January. Both HDs are in heavily Dem Pittsburgh/Allegheny County, but there still will be special elections to fill both seats.
