(369 posts)I don't watch any political talk on TV any more. It's just noise, maybe its liberal flavored noise but noise none the less. Anything that's of actual interest will bubble up and i can catch it later. Anything genuinely newsworthy i can dig deeper on.
There was really no evidence of a red wave: it was all circumstantial: off year election, presidents party loses, bla bla bla. Just regurgitating conventional wisdom from a country that doesn't exist any more.
This is uncharted territory, this has no precedent for us. mass media + personalized social media manipulation, opposition lead by a flat out traitor with the full protection of the GOP party apparatus, the radicalized supreme court, a reawakened pro choice movement.
Did any of the chattering heads once reference the disastrous 1998 midterms overseen by Gingrich? That was the better historical model to examine when the country is disgusted with GOP overreach.
Michael Moore's prediction rang very true to me when he said it.
I guess what I'm saying is unplug. Even liberal chattering heads aren't healthy for you, treat it like fast food or candy: once in a while is ok, but don't live on it.

Watching Bobert smirk, as she seems so proud that shes reading her lines on que.
It will be delicious if she loses.

(19,082 posts)In retrospect, the data did not show a red wave at all. There was maybe a little bump for the GOP in the last couple weeks of the campaign and that led the pundits to all jump on the red wave train and anticipate that the Reps would beat what the data was saying.
Now I am here in Michigan. And the data was showing big wins at the state level for the Dems, but for both state houses to flip was really unexpected. We had a massive blue wave in Michigan that no one predicted. It was glorious!
Hieronymus Phact
(369 posts)We could still keep the house too!
The Repubs close like a freight train: pure fear, confusion, massive cash infusions. It's been saving them, and democrats still haven't found a good counter for it, but they're getting better, they started calling it out, and launched the big names in the final weeks to gain traction.

(23,356 posts)If a "red wave" prediction is what gets Dems to vote, I'm all for predicting it.

(28,808 posts)my son is a plumber in CA - he does new construction and renovations for some very wealthy, entitled people. He had a customer who had not received their bill and called them on Tuesday about it - the woman said, "we won't be home because we're going to be out celebrating the red wave."
hahaha maybe they will be home.

(17,284 posts)So we're going to give the Democrats the worst ass kicking they've ever gotten, my one vote won't make
that big a difference, besides I'd rather sit at home and watch Der Fuhrer on FQX point to all our
victories on the battlefield.
Running up to 2024, maybe we should tell our side it's a super close race every vote counts, and ignore the
polls, remember how far off they were in 2022?

(12,577 posts)Democracy was more important than "the seat".
Here in GA, Kemp easily won reelection. But Herschel Walker LOST & gets a do-over runoff. So a LOT of Kemp voters just refused to vote for Walker. Trump HATES Kemp. I think I've seen similar Stories in other Staes as well.

Cant help thinking that of the 1,000,000 Americans who tragically died of COVID, many of them were presumably unvaccinated, unmasked MAGA-types that were elderly, reliably Republican voters. That alone could have made a huge difference in the outcome of this election.
Reply:
I was actually tracking some of that. The # of deaths by state was not enough to affect outcomes outside of maybe AZ or GA, but it may have mattered more in house races.
