My husband may be facing a lay off.

My husband called me on his lunch break (he is working afternoon shift 3 to midnight) and he tells me that they announced a 15-minute meeting will happen tomorrow. Rumor is they will announce layoffs.

Now we are use to my Husband being laid off before Christmas until the new year. His plant makes products they get ready for Christmas then shut down until the new year. Past year and a half they have been getting less and less orders. I am scared they are going to close permanently.

I am also thinking anyone at that meeting is going to be laid off. We never have had this done. There is always a plan. Like we are shutting down December 16th and your be back here Jan 4th.

Any suggestions? Has anyone ever gone thru this. A surprise meeting announced the day before?

White Collar...not so much. It's usually the end if you get one of those meetings, but you can usually see it coming if you pay attention. So you should have already networked, applied to other places, etc.

My company sent an email invitation Tues night titled “Important Business Update” to all employees globally for Weds afternoon. On that 1-way video Weds meeting they announced a 10% global reduction in workforce. If you are effected, you and your immediate manager(managers had no idea) will get an email telling you you are being let go, along with details of your severance package, and that will happen in 20 mins. Goodbye.

So we all sat around waiting to see if we would get that email, my boss also. I was fortunate that I did not get one, but I know some that did.

I have always thought this would be the last stop for me work-wise. I love it here and want to work out the next 8/10 years, then call it good.

After yesterday, I am polishing my resume. They way they did it, and my resulting loss of faith in leadership have changed my view.

Again, I hope the best for you and your husband.

WARN Notices

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act is federal legislation that offers protection to workers, their families and communities by requiring employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of a covered-business closing and covered-business mass layoff. Enforcement of the WARN Act falls under U.S. Department of Labor jurisdiction. Access the fact sheet on the WARN Act.

Pennsylvania initiates rapid response assistance as soon as information is received that a mass dislocation or plant closure is scheduled to take place.

---snip---

A “Public Notice” is a closing or layoff confirmed through a Rapid Response Unit contact. Every effort has been made to have a creditable source of information or confirmation from the employer or some other clearly credible evidence of an imminent dislocation event before listing it as a public notification of layoff.
