Landlord fights 'White Only' pool sign ruling By The Associated Press
CINCINNATI - A landlord found to have discriminated against a black girl by posting a "White Only" sign at a swimming pool wants a state civil rights commission to reconsider its decision.
The Ohio Civil Rights Commission found on Sept. 29 that Jamie Hein, who's white, violated the Ohio Civil Rights Act by posting the sign at a pool at the duplex where the teenage girl was visiting her parents. The parents filed a discrimination charge with the commission and moved out of the duplex in the racially diverse city to "avoid subjecting their family to further humiliating treatment," the commission said in a release announcing its finding.
An investigation revealed that Hein in May posted on the gated entrance to the pool an iron sign that stated "Public Swimming Pool, White Only," the commission statement said.
Several witnesses confirmed that the sign was posted, and the landlord indicated that she posted it because the girl used in her hair chemicals that would make the pool "cloudy," according to the commission.

(2,322 posts)Would be what I'd tell the Landlord were I the judge on this. After all, such hair chemicals can be used by any ethnicity depending on the hair and the style they're going for.

This type of situation calls for stiff fines, IMHO.

(12,675 posts)You can ban certain THINGS (like certain kinds of hair products) with banning an entire group of PEOPLE. And frankly, women who've just had their hair relaxed aren't going to be swimming with their heads uncovered anyway. It can screw up your hair. I can't think of any hair chemicals other than relaxers that would do anything to a swimming pool, and EVERYONE knows that you don't swim with newly-permed or relaxed hair. By the time it's safe to swim, the chemicals have long since been washed out.
This is just a racist fuckwad floundering for an excuse for his bigotry.

My SIL is from Ireland. She gets her hair relaxed all the time. Naturally it is a big bouncy beautiful puff of ginger hair. Everyone saying they should have either required swim caps or said no harsh hair chemicals is right on. Women and men of every color and hue use hair products.

(7,906 posts)it's from sunscreens. This is a known product yet no one has a good filtration system for sunscreen lotions and tanning oils.
But this lady is full of crap. She did this to be racist.

(9,933 posts)Woman is definitely a racist. Guess that's why the Y has signs all over the place saying: "Shower before entering pool."

Her claim of being a non-racist seems kind of silly when you make statements like that.
