If you smash the chips down in the sandwich, when you lifted the sandwich up
to your mouth, the tiny potato chiplings go flying everywhere.

Which was a waste of potato chips and mess for clean up.

I also liked the texture of the chip when you crunched down on a whole chip in your sandwich.
You don't get that with a gazillion little chips.
