I was in grade school in the Orlando area. The teachers brought in small b&w tvs so we could watch the countdowns for the early manned flights. We'd count down in the classroom, then run outside and look east, toward Cape Canaveral. We got to see the missiles take flight. The most memorable one for me was Gordon Cooper's flight, when the sun reflected brightly off the craft. I feel so honored for having been able to see them with my own eyes.

I was a little one and don't remember it clearly. We were down in Florida doing Disney World and then visiting relatives in West Palm Beach. The big deal was that the Bears won the Super Bowl. All I remember was that I hadn't finished my math dittos and it was absolutely freezing when we left. My mom had to dress us in sweaters and jackets we were going to put on once we landed in Chicago.

My parents remember it fairly clearly, but said they had no idea what they'd seen until after getting home from the trip.
