I hope she able to get all of the therapy and support she will need for that horribly traumatic experience.

Could we have insisted on more? I doubt it. I see this as a negotiation success. The way I see it is that Viktor Bout is disposable to Putin; as bizarre as it seems I don't think Viktor Bout is as important to Russia as Brittney Griner is to the USA.

That's not the same in Russia. Viktor Bout is not so important to a dictator; Putin can easily get himself a new arms dealer.

Doesn't matter that she's an NBA star or famous. She might as well have been a tourist... we're supposed to cherish our citizens.

Russia got their arms merchant back, and may be able to get their hands on more sophisticated weapons with which to kill Ukrainians.

But I love this "we're supposed to cherish our citizens". Ummm.. I don't "cherish" them all in this country, let alone ones I see abroad who act as if being an American is an exemption from acting like a decent human.

Jonathan Franks was just on CNN talking about how this is at least the third time under two presidential administrations that this has happened to Whelan. That has to be awful for him and his family.

I'm guessing the right wing will do its best to minimize this good news or turn it into a story about something else.

But maybe some are just feeling sulky today and letting a bad morning get the better.

Grandad would always laugh off people's crotchety moods with "it's tougher than you think making the switch to decaff." I try to too, but yeah, I get where you're coming from.

Mad that the white guy convicted of spying is still there, but we traded an arms dealer for a pothead minority.

That's what they're saying. FOXNews is going to go apeshit.

Operationally I don't think releasing Viktor Bout makes one bit of difference to Russian arms sales and terriorism. Without Bout it would simply be a case of next man up.... with dictators nobody is indispensable.
