Open the official Twitter app on your iPhone or iPad (or head to twitter.com)
Tap your profile picture or swipe from left to right
Choose Settings and Support then Settings and privacy
Now tap Your account at the top
At the bottom, choose Deactivate your account
Choose a Reactivation period (30 days or 12 months)
Read the disclaimers, tap Deactivate
Enter your password and follow the prompts to delete your account

A fail safe would be to create a random password that you can copy and paste and change your password before deleting it. This will prevent you from being able to log in impulsively before the 30 days are over.

(42,770 posts)See it as an option. I *think* if you do that all your followers get dropped. I have to figure out if I care about that or not first.

I rarely interact with twitter (aside from following links from here). My last two interactions there were August and November. But it is sometimes handy to have a login, so I'll delete my (former) work account but keep my personal one.
Post. so far looks to be an interesting place. The interface is pretty and relatively easy to use. Lots of people are posting photos - so there's that visual appeal, as well. It is not accessible by default, but there are calls to make it more accessible - and the site owners have been pretty responsive to user requests (it's in beta right now). It is ultimately more likely to be accessible than Mastadon since it there is a single set of rules (rather than each server creating their own), and it doesn't have the complexity of multiple servers - which makes it more accessible from a technological standpoint.
About 2 weeks ago they let everyone on the waiting list in - not sure what the status is now - but the waits have been short.
ETA: My former work account has been deactivated - so I've contributed one account to anyone tracking the number of deactivations.

Others will make their own decisions, and continually nagging and asking are unlikely to change their minds.

(1,766 posts)But I can't remember the password and I don't dare email them to reset it. Who knows what filth they'd infect my computer with now?
I only had the account as a study group contact point back when I took some college classes to freshen up my knowledge base/get back in the academic swing of things for grad school. Cancer sorta derailed the grad school plans, and the medical bills pretty much eradicated what I'd planned to use for tuition. So I had a lot more on my mind for a while there than accessing Twitter or erasing an account I no longer needed.
...Still want to get that MS, even if I'm too old now to do anything with it.
