(102,979 posts)The version of the January 6 report with his epilogue (and New Yorker Magazine's David Remnick's forward) is a really hot seller right now on Amazon. It has sold out the pre-orders several times. All the editions are doing well, but I decided I wanted to hear future thoughts from Raskin. Now, I'm especially glad to read his words.
Be well, Jamie. You surely must be just about the strongest and most moral person I've ever experienced. Certainly one of the most intelligent.

(16,973 posts)I am not Catholic, but I believe that prayer is universal and Whoever hears our prayes doesn't check IDs upon receiving them. I trust that St. Peregrine will not object to a non-Catholic like me saying this beautiful prayer for our beloved Jewish friend Rep. Raskin.

(24,946 posts)My goddess he's brilliant.
This family has been through so much. Fortunately, the cancer is aggressive but the survival rate appears to be quite high. He is being treated at Medstar Georgetown, which has an excellent reputation. My husband received radiation treatment there for several months (at the start of the Covid pandemic, which was terrifying). Jamie Raskin is such a good, honorable man. I wish him the absolute best. Our country needs him.

(16,973 posts)"After several days of tests, I have been diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma, which is a serious but curable form of cancer."
I am focusing my thoughts on the word "curable," because I find it to be a very encouraging bit of information. As is this part:
"Prognosis for most people in my situation is excellent..."
I believe that he WILL get through this, and this brilliant, dedicated, and very good man will be able to continue his work and enjoy many more years of life on this earthly plain with those he loves and who love him.

(52,205 posts)At first the treatments worked great. It seemed like he was cured. Then it came back after 6 months. They treated him again. And then it would come back again, this time after 3 months. Each time the remission would be shorter. Eventually he stopped responding to treatments.
