UT vs. Clemson. The coach who drops an orange barrel gets 10 extra points.

I've been away from being a head for so long, I can't remember. Which probably isn't that surprising, either.

(7,517 posts)Just your average acid. Made by the Brotherhood of Eternal Love in Cali and mass produced to be shipped across the country. Purple microdot, Owsley's products were much stronger. I know from experience.

(16,167 posts)I heard 4 way windowpane was pretty darn strong.
Doc Sportello
(7,517 posts)I should have included that as well among the powerful versions. I took acid regularly back in the day but don't think I would want to in my old age, even though I hear microdosing has become popular.

(2,133 posts)was really small and it freaked a lot of people out. I had to sit in the stairwell at Carnegie hall talking my friend down s during a Hot Tuna concert.
Doc Sportello
(7,517 posts)But it wasn't the most potent out there by any stretch. I took it many times, without a problem, as did others because it was so readily available. Perhaps your friend took too many, or perhaps it was the Hot Tuna.

So here's my deal...
Have any of you Bluelighter's ever heard of any older people mentioning Sunshine LSD in the form of Orange Barrels?
On many instances when discussing LSD with family members, hippies, and the older generation I've heard them mention these Orange Barrels and how unbeleivable they were...
All of the descriptions of the Barrels have been almost identical and they've all described them as an Orange Barrel that was supposed to be 3 hits...I'm guessing that it resembled more of a "Microdot" type of deal with a sort of pill-like form but they always reply back with "it was a Barrel"...
The first time I heard about this was when I was talking to my Uncle (who was and still is a huge psychonaut) at a family wedding about Timothy Leary and his days follwing him, and he said that the guy took a pin to the top of the barrell and it was filled with crystal...My uncle said he ate the whole thing and had the worst trip of his entire life...it was New Years 1970 and he was scared of being drafted..he said that the entire trip entailed him hiding in bushes and hearing sirens all night...He said he was also directed to only eat 1/3 of the mysterious barrel.
Then last night when I was walking town to a girl's house to get our freak on...I got into a convo with a homeless guy on the streets and he mentioned the fucking Orange Barrell LSD...I was just shocked at the coincidence...I wish I could go back in time and try an orange barrel because everyone who said they took them said they were mindblowing.

(7,517 posts)All you list here as "evidence" for your claims about potency and rarity is conversations with a homeless guy whose mind was blown and talks with a few others who said they did, but you are treating their recollections (some of hwom may have bene firt time users) as fact, which they are not. Since it was the most widely distributed acid at the time, it is not unsual to these older heads you talk to refer to it. It was the most common acid produced and its users were likely in the millions.
Here are a few well-known facts, not heresay or opinion, about Orange Susnshine. As I have written and has been ignored, it was created by two members of a group in Cali called the Brotherhood of Eternal Love. Their original claims about their intent and the potentcy of the drug have been called into question, as the members have variously been described as dangerous, or just surfer bros, or wide-eyed peaceniks. I've read a lot about them and their association with a longtime CIA asset. That's another story. The facts are: it was the most widely available type of LSD, not rare as you claimed. You also in your post here conflate Orange Sunshine with other types of LSD - no microdot was not in shape, size, potency, or anyting else like the Orange Barrel stuff. Sorry but you just don't know what you're talking about.
As I wrote in another post, early on in the late 60s the first batches may have had a potency like the others, but as it became mass produced and as the group started making big money, they likely diluted the product. It's hard to know with those guys when they are truthful about their claims. But your claims of it being rare are completely false, and a couple of anecdotal claims about potency do not make it true. I and many others took it many times in the early 70s and did not have the reactions you describe. Different people have different rections, depending on their state of mind and the amount they take. Sorry, but your claims of rarity and potency are simply not true.

(7,517 posts)Read my posts. I have real life experience of both me and the many I knew who took it and other types. Apparantely, you don't have any such experience, except with a friend who took it one time and freaked out.

(2,133 posts)and the hallucinations were intense. I took many types of acid including window pane and went to many Dead concerts. I sent you a blog with many people who had the same experience but you are the only expert.
Doc Sportello
(7,517 posts)You stated as actual fact multiple times that Orange Sunshine was "rare" and was the most potent of them all. The former is completely false, as an internet search will prove that millions of the barrels were made. It was mass produced. You do know what mass produced means, right? You stated in the guise of an expert something that was untrue. Potency can be debated, but not its rarity. It was commonplace.
As for claiming to be an expert, well I am certainly more of one than you are. Not only took it but was a small-time dealer, as were my housemates. I'm not talking about the 80s when the Dead became fashionable to a certain sgement. We went to Boulder to buy it on the street, then took it back to our hometowns and house to sell on campus. Yes Orange Sunshine was intense; anything with enough LSD in it was going to be intense. You had this myth that the LSD you and your uncle and some homeless guy took was the most powerful ever and it was rare. I simply wanted to correct the false statements. But some people find it hard to let go of something they have thought true for many years when they find out they were wrong.

(24,284 posts)Mostly Blotter and Window Pane. Don't know if true, but I remember it was said that OS was simply LSD dropped onto Vitamin C vitamin pills becaues the Vitamin C was an effective vehicle to make the body absorb it more efficiently.

(2,133 posts)was one of a kind. It was incredibly intense.
Mr.Bill
(24,284 posts)At least in the very early 70s which is when I was using LSD. Was it called "Barrel" because of the shape of the pill? Or was it even a pill? What part of the country was the term used in?
I'm just wondering if we are talking about the same thing that had different names regionally.
Doc Sportello
(7,517 posts)On a scale it was less intense than several other types. I know from experience, not from reading stuff on the internet or a one time situation. The first batches may have been as you described, but from about '70 on it was mass produced and shipped across the country. It was common and ordinary.
