That will finish off the fireworks a lot, well hopefully that is!

(113,506 posts)number of vet friends, I am a bit more aware than some. We actually post signs asking people to be considerate of vets in our neighborhoods around here. But some people just don't care.
Be safe and well.

(1,925 posts)Currently with my wife at one of her friends place in Palmer woods. Someone just shot a full auto ak47 on the other side of Woodward. Sounded like 30rds or so. Been while since I heard that. Her husband says he's heard it last summer on 4th of July as well. He was deployed a couple times to Afghanistan so he recognized it too. So yea, both him and I will be smoking our cigars inside for the rest of the night.

(6,205 posts)I am thankful that discharging bullets into the sky is against the law. Here in Phoenix, at least in the past, they attempt to track the gunfire.

(1,826 posts)puts a damper on things. An other reason I like our dank, misty climate!
One of our cats used to go under the bed and stay there, the other responded well to being on the bed and having the somewhat blanket and comforter placed completely over her - I think the weight soothed her.

(66,436 posts)A number of years ago, the house on the corner was rented by some redneck family who used to have bonfires in their backyard, and they would shoot their rifles in the air.
They were finally cleared out, but they made the rest of the neighborhood nervous every time they got liquored up.

(113,506 posts)I hope it stays that way!

(65,134 posts)I was never a fireworks kid. My parents absolutely forbid them. They both had experience when they were younger with firecrackers gone sideways.
But, I'd watch others with bottlerockets & crackers.
Then, I got my ATF/FBI authorizations for real explosives. I helped decommissioning an arsenal in the 90s where we detonated nearly 300,000 pounds of aged ordinance & obsolete active agents. (Mostly TNT, PETN, & lead azide)
When you set off 1,200 pounds and feel the pressure wave from 600 yards away, firecrackers kind of lose their ability to awe.

(65,134 posts)I only heard a few small pops here, including at midnight. I just happened to wake up for the bathroom at around 5 'til 12.
Fortunately, the doggie we have now is not freaked out by them. Our last one was a mess every Juky 4th.
