(31,401 posts)Both "my" teams--UCLA and UNC--lost their Bowl games, so I was really happy to see Georgia win. Now they have to stomp TCU.

Great day for NCAA football.
GO, DAWGS!

(19,204 posts)There was certainly no lack of offense in those two games today! 😳
No way did I see TCU beating Michigan, and I thought Georgia would cream Ohio St.
Good thing I stopped betting on sports.

(5,179 posts)I lay down at the half and woke up to see Georgia pull ahead 42-41, then watched the kick at the end.
As far as TCU-Michigan: I've never missed so many points being scored in a game only leaving the room for brief instances, but every time I had to go to the kitchen or bathroom, I found the score had changed when I got back.

(31,401 posts)My late husband's family was from Georgia and he loved college football. He would have been jumping out of his chair last night, too.
For me, it's about the state politics, which is why I wanted Michigan and Georgia to fight it out for the championship. But now Georgia has to absolutely stomp that damn Texas team.

(31,401 posts)Been there.
Will you ignore the title game, though? Will you be able to watch it? Will you care which team wins?
I will watch it unless something comes up. I don't care who wins now as I am not a fan of either team. I would just hope for a competitive, enjoyable game to watch.

(1,202 posts)Both teams are made up of student athletes from across the country, if not across the world. It should be an honor for them to get a White House invite no matter what, and for that, I will be glad for them. From a political standpoint, Georgia would "probably" be more supportive, but who really knows? I personally do not try to look at everything through a political lens (not implying you do/are).

(31,401 posts)not being from Texas and was very surprised to learn of its history and particular religious affiliation with a very progressive and usually left leaning organization of Christians: the Disciples of Christ, which supports Planned Parenthood. I would never have guessed the affiliation from the name of the university, given its location.

(31,401 posts)the political lens, which is one reason I posted this in GD and not The Lounge. I grew up with a dad who loved college football and taught me to appreciate the game. I saluted Colin Kaepernick when he took a knee and all the other players who followed his lead. It can be easier to compartmentalize activities and want to keep the game separate from politics. But it's not. College football is about money and it is played by men which means it's also about power and connections which are mostly denied to women. So, in my little world, I want the team that is most associated with values that reflect mine to win, because I want those male college athletes to care about something other than traditional patriarchal values.
I was an amateur and professional athlete and I can honestly say, politics never entered into my mind and my performance. I just tried the best I could and had great coaches.
I did not know about TCU.

(4,701 posts)The reason I went on general discussion was so that I didn't have to listen to Sports News about this game thanks for putting this in the wrong platform
