tiger, in family circus show, sneaks up on trainer and pounces

at 1:38... he doesnt see tiger #1 sneaking up behind him because he's working with tiger #2

A big cat trainer in Italy was savaged by a pair of tigers during a family circus show in the Italian province of Lecce on Thursday evening.

Shocking footage shows the moment Ivan Orfei, 31, was pounced upon by one of the hulking cats who snuck up beside him while he was instructing its companion during a performance at the Marina Orfei Circus in Surbo.

The tiger hauled the trainer to the floor by the leg before circling him and jumping on his back, biting down on its helpless master's neck.

ivan was rushed to Lecce's Vito Fazzi hospital with deep wounds to the neck, leg and arm inflicted by the feline during the show, but managed to escape life-threatening injuries and was later discharged.

Tigers are natural predators and under stress they will fall back on instinct. Frankly, they're not the smartest of the big cats and the idea that they could learn a foreign language is remarkably naive.

I’m pretty sure all languages are foreign to tigers, Calvin and Hobbs notwithstanding…😁

Circuses are cruelty to animals, and this is being shown to an audience of children.

Frankly, ever since I was a kid, I thought the circus was boring and stupid.

If that part of the sentence does not inform us as what this whole show is for then there is nothing to be done to stop this nonsense and cruelty.

The only point I have ever seen to these shows is to make "THE man" look like a brave hero, strutting around and whacking animals that have no business being kept the way they are. Even a kind keeper cannot be really kind with something like this that usually causes lots of travel in very small enclosures.

Disgusting. I am sure at some later date we will be given to opportunity to see pictures of the wounds and his remaining scars to support the courageouness of our hero, the Master. God this makes me sick, enough that I have to say I was hoping the wounds were bad enough that they would stop all this but......

in the fancy clothes, with his strutting around hitting animals that have no choice but to do what he says or not and get beaten or kill the asshole NEVER learn a lesson. In every walk of life you can run into them and they always fail up until someone figures them out and eats them.

The pretty clothes, very tight with enhancements no doubt. LOL, you made me laugh.

I was perhaps 6 or 7 years old. My parents used to drive to Mexico all the way from Illinois in a van for a couple of weeks each year. I remember my father taking me to the bullfight. I was such an animal lover even then and I remember being dismayed by the cruelty and rooting for the bull every time. At one point a bull actually gored a matador and I distinctly remember my father covering my eyes so I wouldn't see this guy being seriously injured or killed I don't have any idea what happened to him. But I threw my dad's hands off my face eager to see that bull get justice.

I saw an interview with a woman who had a pet tiger. Whole family took part in taking care of it. They allowed the daughter, I think about nine, to go feed it its dinner. Tiger killed her. Amazingly, they gave the tiger to a wildlife reserve. Woman said it was their fault, not the tiger's. The tiger was just being a tiger.

I used to live in a community where a lioness was kept as a pet. All reports said she was well-treated. Her owner went in her cage den to fix something, and invited a couple of guests in. The lioness killed one of them. The guest's daughter was outside the cage and saw the whole thing.

The lioness was euthanized, which annoyed me because she was just being a lioness. Lions should be in reserves, the wild, and well-run zoos (I know many folks here hate zoos.)

A fellow who used to do an act with a pet lion said the lion taught him a valuable lesson. "He looked at me, and it was like, 'not today, Dave.'"
