Man kills tire shop worker moving car, thinking he was thief

A man was charged with murder Saturday after shooting a tire shop employee in Georgia moving his car because he thought the worker was a thief, police said.

The man brought his car in for service at the Tires Plus in Decatur on Saturday afternoon when he saw his car being driven through the parking lot, the DeKalb County Police Department told media outlets.

Thinking his car was being stolen, Quadarius McDowell fired several shots, killing the 24-year-old employee behind the wheel who was moving the vehicle to another place, police said.

McDowell ran from the shop, but was taken into custody a short time later, police said.

Too bad he didn't shoot a maintenance worker in Texas - he wouldn't have been charged.

It is amazing to me how many Americans are willing to kill others committing property crimes, or may be committing property crimes. We have become a trigger-happy cowboy nation.

How could he not realize that it could have been a worker? Shops like that always move cars. If it was from his driveway at 3:00 AM, it would be different.

And then call 911 to report it .

No property is worth using deadly force to protect. And it's been decades since I was in the Navy where I had assignments where deadly force was authorized to protect property.

Most of the time they do it without me even noticing because I'm busy reading or on my phone.

It sounds like to me this asshole had an itchy finger and looking for a reason to use his phallic symbol. I hope they throw the book at him. This shit needs to stop.

And stick you in a place where, whatever you got, someone is going to try to steal it from you. Five seconds of clear thinking would have spared you all that. But you let your gun do the thinking. Rot in jail, douche-rag...

Black on black crime is always trotted out in defense of outrage over whites killing blacks. For 2022 the numbers of white deaths by firearms just about doubles that of black deaths by firearms. White on white crime not only doesn't get talked about. You never even hear the phrase.

Carrying a gun involves a lot more then time shooting at targets at a range. Just told my wife.that I'll never carry in public as I have neither the time or inclination to do enough training where I'd feel I could handle a gun properly in public

Right now my gun is empty and locked in a safe in the bedroom and the ammo is locked in a box in the basement. It'll stay that way until I get back on track with my home defense training

Edit: I did say to my wife that there'd have to be a break down of society before I carry off my property.

Because of Reich Wing assholes, I'm going to get my license and start carrying again.

I've probably been through about 100+ hours of advanced "go fast" firearms training. The thing I heard, again and again, from others who'd been through some training was something along the lines of, "I'm probably now the LAST person who would draw a gun and start shooting." I've said it myself. From those who didn't get it, one would sometimes hear, "Guess you're some kind of fucking pussy?"

No, the reality is that once you go through a bit of training, you quickly deduce "I don't care how good you are, how good you think you are, how fast you are, how aware you are, you engage in a gunfight and there's a real risk of losing."

In one event, "a shoot off"--where we draw and fire and shoot a paper target, the faster shooter wins the round, and the last person standing wins--I beat a renowned firearms instructor and trainer. Now we're talking fractions of a second, so had we been shooting each other, we'd both likely be dead. I know my skill. But it generally has little to do with speed and accuracy and more to do with good information about the situation.

Shoot someone because you "think" they are stealing your car? How about if you know they are stealing your car? I'm still not gonna shoot them. I'm going to be a good witness, and call 9-1-1.

Cops do it because it's their job and the law permits them. Generally speaking, cops can use necessary force whereas private citizens have to use reasonable force.

If a cop had shot this worker, the law would still be against them. Now, race based reality says that if a white cop shot a black worker, there's far less likelihood of the cop getting charged.

My gun is a tool of last resort. The baddie will have to be trying to break through my reinforced bedroom door before I'll use it.

They can be downstairs ransacking the place but as long as they don't come upstairs and try to break into our safe room, I won't confront them. My wife and I will stay hunkered down and call 911.
