Heading to Washington today

Tomorrow is the Congressional inauguration and swearing in. Most House and Senate members have open houses or viewing parties for their constituents and supporters. About 20 fellow NY supporters are going together to see what we accomplished.

Foggy morning. Cloudy afternoon. Highs near 60.

Full Weather Report

Last updated on January 2, 2023 at 5:58 a.m.

The year got off to an almost record-breaking start with the high temperature at Reagan National only 7 degrees off from Sunday’s record high of 69 degrees. A couple of patches of fog will develop between now and daybreak, but the sun will quickly return within two hours after daybreak and warm temperatures well-above average yet again. Clouds will then roll in later Monday.

Fog will likely develop from the Blue Ridge into the D.C. metro overnight and Tuesday will once again be warm (with near record highs in D.C.) and dry with a breezy southwest wind ahead of a developing Midwest storm system. However, a warm front stuck along the Mason-Dixon Line will be the source for rain showers along and north of I-70 on Tuesday. The Midwest system will push across the DMV Wednesday afternoon and evening with a couple of showers and enough instability will yield a risk for a thunderstorm south of D.C. As the lagging upper-level energy arrives behind the front Thursday, there is a risk for a few showers and due to the cold air aloft, graupel or soft snowflakes could be mixed in despite surface temperatures well-above freezing.

... to try and keep our caucus focused on making some progress, not matter how incremental.

And while I am resentful of very wealthy donors such as yourself having such undue influence, I know that's just where the system is right now, and I hope that those, such as yourself, with their head and hearts in the right place can help keep our party focused on the war and not on flashy rhetoric. I agree with you more than not, so I hope you are successful.

I think people over-rate the ability of big dollar donors to influence policy. We can get face time more easily, but the ability to influence major policy positions doesn't really exist. Elected official have their own positions, and the most we can do is offer them data from a different perspective.

FWIW - all the events I'm attending tomorrow are on Government property and are open to anyone who shows up.
