Stupid question here...Is it a regulatory possibility that Jeffries could be Speaker if some/
enough Rs voted for him?

1. I believe I just read, Clyburn says we only need 6 R's to join the Dems..

2. Majority of votes cast for a person gets it. The Repukes don't even need to vote for him.
Enough just vote "present" and that would do it.

7. Six yeas or 10 presents
I seriously doubt either will happen, but I bet the Dems are reaching out to moderates (or at least less crazy’s) to work out something.

3. Yes he could. Speaker doesn't even have to be a sitting congressperson. nt

5. 218 is the magic number.
6 republicans would need to defect. That won't happen.
Jeffries will be Speaker in two years! |

11. 218 is the number needed only if...
… 434 or 435 representatives vote for a candidate. Fewer votes could win if some members of the House don’t vote.

13. It will be interesting to see if everyone shows up tomorrow.
For sure every democrat will be there.

12. no, 218 is not necessarily the magic number, all you need is a majority (50% +1) of those voting
atm there are 212 Dems, 222 Rethugs, and one vacancy (left by the death of Rep. Donald McEachin (D-Va.) shortly after his reelection)
434 total voting we would need 11 Rethugs to not vote at all, ie abstain (not 10 or less than 10) that means 423 total voting so 212 would win it for Jeffries of course if 6 Rethugs flipped straight to Jeffries (like you said) that would work too, but that will never happen there also could be a combination of Rethugs not voting and 1 to 5 Rethugs flipping straight to Jeffries (that number flipping is dependant on how many Rethugs do not vote) |

8. Yes, that's possible.
What matters is gaining a majority vote of those present and who vote for a candidate. It’s also possible for Jeffries to win a majority of votes if enough Repukes voted “present” or missed the vote.
But it ain’t gonna happen. |

9. It would seem so. Would be amazing but unlikely...
On the other hand...would bring the House down!

10. I hope so.
Why should our people suffer because Gerrymandering has net a bunch of lunatics that want to ruin the country.
If there are any decent Republicans they best vote for Jefferies, and move their party beyond the insurrectionist traitors that are trying to take over. |
