New analysis explains why McCarthy may be leading the 'most dysfunctional Congress ever'

While Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has fought an uphill battle to victory, a new analysis is explaining why this may only be the beginning of the Republican chaos to come.

-snip-

"With a narrowly divided chamber, 222-to-212, the new speaker has shown the far-right wing of his caucus that they can get their way through obstruction — a recipe for nonstop hostage-taking by small factions going forward," he wrote.

According to Romano, the occurrences this week will likely continue for McCarthy.

"The problem for Congress," Romano wrote, "is that McCarthy will probably have to continue prostrating himself in order to keep his new job. Why? Because in the process of winning their votes, he awarded his captors nearly every demand on their wish list — empowering them to continue to obstruct business whenever it suits their purposes."

Remember McCarthy went crawling back to Mierda A Lago to beg forgiveness immediately after the Jan. 6 insurrection.

You know, as in "Days till McCarthy gets ousted as Speaker" similar to those "Days injury free" signs?

McCarthy did indeed expose himself to the whims of a single RWNJ to endanger his Speakership, but,,,,

if McCarthy works with Democrats, he can easily rebuff any attempt to oust himself. It's really not the 20 Republicans that matter now, it's how well he works with the new House Minority Leader.

That the same forces that make it impossible for the r thugs to vote FOR something are the same ones that will work against them when they want to vote AGAINST something.

Like, oh, getting rid of Qevin as Speaker.

The Traitor Caucus is neither as patient nor as good at cobbling a winning coalition as McQarthy did with his Speaker vote. They will fail in any attempt to bring him down, because they won't have the votes.

I mean, you have to know how to count AFTER you take off your socks to get the necessary votes, and they're too stupid to count past 20. And that's being generous about them knowing they can take off their socks to count their toes, too. I'm not sure some of them are that bright.

These people are reality stars. They have zero interest in the nation or its government. It's reality TV and you make "news" by making waves. The new speaker is F'd.

No it wasn't! Remember this cast of characters? A bunch are still there and others rode off into the sunset but then due to the glare, blew right over the cliff.

The main difference is that there are a few "younger" ones there now and back then, the media had an entrenched habit of lofting them up in order to spend all their time attacking Democrats instead - a tough habit to break that we battle even today.

The one thing these loons forget is what was noted here -

Washington Games and Actual Baseball

The Freedom Caucus won’t own up to reality, and the World Series begins.

Slate–ropolitans,

Since the Tea Party takeover of the House of Representatives, 40 ultraconservative congressmen, collectively known as the House Freedom Caucus, have held the key to passing any federal laws in America—or rather, the key to passing none.

It would be nice if the House Freedom Caucus admitted that they’re powerless to do anything alone.

These congressmen argue that they’re the only politicians in Washington brave enough to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and defund Planned Parenthood. But it’s not true—they can’t do anything by themselves. It turns out bills require the approval of both the House and the president (the Senate, too!) to become law.

by making it impossible for them to do their jobs, and also attacking them. Worth remembering.

What's new here are that they're even "crazier" than ever and the opportunities for coercion that electing a new Republican speaker with only a slim party majority provided. In their fractious way, unable to cooperate temporarily even with each other, they did take gain much of the power that this opportunity provided.

As expected by those with long familiarity with them.
