Rep. Scott Perry, who the Jan. 6 committee said sought a pardon for his involvement in attempts to overturn the 2020 election, wants to turn the tables on the panel that investigated him now that the Republicans have gained a majority in the House.
Why should I be limited
just because someone has made an accusation? Perry told This Week host George Stephanopoulos on Sunday when he asked if Perry would pledge not to serve on the investigation into the Jan. 6 committee.

-snip-
When Stephanopoulos pointed out that it might be a conflict of interest for Perry to join the House GOP investigation of the Jan. 6 committee, Perry responded, So should everybody in Congress that disagrees with somebody be barred from doing the oversight and investigative powers that Congress has? I get accused of all kinds of things every single day, as does every member that serves in the public eye.
According to news reports and the Jan. 6 investigation, Perry was closely involved in the efforts to subvert democracy and declare Trump the winner of the 2020 election, even though the former president lost by millions of votes. And former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson testified that Perry spoke to her directly about requesting a pardon from Trump.

(9,385 posts)As a news organization, they can and should have appearances by these idiots. It's when they're not challenged in these interviews that should worry you. The public needs to know about these bums. It's when we don't know or the truth gets hidden that's a bad thing.

(8,020 posts)A place to spread their lies. Bet corporate ABC won't be interviewing many Dems who actually have something to say. Its showboating.

the J6 committee is no more, but their report, the transcripts, and televised witness testimonies are forever..and I am so looking forward to Perry and his traitorous cohorts attempt to take on Jack Smith/Merrick Garland and the DOJ...

(92,366 posts)what he was saying, and in fact allowing him to push the false narrative that he was a victim of a fascist opposition, without questioning him on the actual evidence of Perrys complicity through his emails, and his request for a pardon because of his actions
That is the problem. Many follow the Chuck Todd school of journalism, that it isnt the job reporters to question false statements made by those being interviewed
In other words when Perry made the statement that he was being falsely accused of things, when he should have been confronted with his emails, pardon requests made by people under oath, and how Perrys refusal to testify before the January 6th committee, were not even brought up.
Just asking him if he has a conflict of interest, hardly goes far enough, because it isnt specific WHY it would be a conflict of interest, and just allows him to spew that he is falsely being accused

(9,385 posts)Which is what he should have done. Perry didn't get away with the crap he was trying to pull.
And it always makes me shake my head when I see people criticizing interviews. Interviewing like this is not easy, whether it be entertainers (which I've done a lot of) or politicians.

(9,385 posts)Here's a longer version. Perry spewed nothing but bullshit. Stephanopolous questioned him on everything he said and followed up with questions when Perry didn't answer him.

(92,366 posts)he wouldnt negotiate. I thought he said that Social Security and Medicare were non-negotiable.
Perry just refusing to comment if he would or would not take the 5th if called to testify, the follow-up would be, why wont you answer the question? In fact that followup response could have been directed on multiple questions Perry evaded
I still stand by my stance that it wasnt a very strong follow-up. He sure wasnt a Mike Wallace or Dan Rather
Just comparing it to the press briefings of trump. Those were generally tough

(9,385 posts)As much as we hate it, these idiots need to appear on news shows. That doesn't mean they need to appear every minute. But people need to see what the other side is doing and these idiots need to be challenged. Stephanie Ruhle's interview with Boebert recently was a great example of that. Ruhle did a great job getting underneath her skin and not just letting her recite talking points. A good news knows how to book its guests. MSNBC does a good job balancing things out the right way. I haven't seen any evidence that ABC doesn't.
And you know this idea about fake news and corporate profits is quite Trumpian. With Trump, it's all a conspiracy theory. Don't fall into that trap. Real news outlets like ABC know what they're doing. (FYI, I worked at a major daily paper for over three decades.)
